“Expensive”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

The only reason one goes to Manapouri is for the wonderful fjord lands, mountains, lakes and walks and scenery. If this B&B was anywhere else you would not give it a second look. We thought it was over priced - simply taking advantage of the location. Janice is a strong character and I think you either fit in or you don't.

In response to Gavin’s review I would like to say.
Value. Our rates are very competitive, please feel free to e-mail me and I will send a list of B&B’s and accommodation in this area for you to check out. I send out this list if I have no vacancies.
Location. Yes we have an amazing view of a beautiful lake and also the mountains from all our rooms, Manapouri is a great place to stay if taking a cruise to Doubtful or Milford Sounds and has great walking tracks.
Rooms. Our B&B is 6 years old, all down stairs furniture, bedding and linen, linen has since been replaced, were new at that time. I can’t think of what I have missed except a 32 inch TV that will be installed in the down stairs room in the coming weeks
Cleanliness. I can’t answer this except to say I do the very best I can, and leave it up to future viewer to read the other reviews.
Service and fitting in. This is a tough one to answer as I’m not sure where you are coming from. I try to treat all guests the same, as in my greeting on arrival, all get the same information. At breakfast all lhave the same choice unless you have made prior arrangement with me. All receive the same information on Doubtful or Milford Sounds , on travel to Queenstown, Dunedin or else where. All know how to find me if I’m needed and I try to help all I can. Love to chat when time allows
Strong Character. I take this as a compliment, to operate a B&B or any business virtually by ones self, as you know Neal works away from home, one has to have a certain strength or we would all buckle at the first problem or criticism.
I am sad you didn't enjoy you stay, as I do strive to please.
Yours faithfully
Janice Duncan

“Make a list of what you want in a B&B retreat and this one will meet or exceed on every count.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We spent 4 nights at Cathedral Peaks B&B, using it as a base to explore Fjordland. We could not have chosen a better spot. Janice is a delightful person and the perfect host. Her hospitality is second to none. She was a great resource on the area and knew just when to offer advice or simply let us enjoy the scenery that was just outside our window. Her breakfasts of freshly baked muffins, homemade jams and eggs to order were a perfect way to start each day. We recommend Cathedral Peaks B&B very highly.

I should add one note about the pub down the road that received some comments in other reviews. I respectfully disagree with the reviewers who call it average food. I am a bit of a "foodie" and found the place quite good. It is a pub and not a fancy restaurant. The lamb shanks were done very well and the pan-fried cod superb -- all with a good wine list of local wines.

Room Tip: Either of the downstairs rooms.

“Fantastic B&B”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 January 2012

Janice does a superb job of Inviting you into her B&B. The downstairs rooms are fantastic, with everything you need. They also have a wonderful view of Lake Manapouri.

The only place to eat in Manapuri is the pub just up the road, the food is average, but the service is good enough.

Janice does an amazing breakfast the next ring, with real china plates and cups. A fantastic lady who obviously loves what she does.

“Excellent B&B Manapouri Lake”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

Myself and my wife were visiting New Zealand for the Rugby World Cup and were going on the overnight cruise in Doubtful Sound - Real Journeys
We stayed in Cathedral Peaks based on excellent Tripadvisor reviews and were not in any way disappointed.
The room had a fantastic view over the lake .
We arrived in the late afternoon and Janice recommended a walk down the Keppler Track that was excellent .- Forest walk along the river at the start
Our only regret was that we had not arrived over earlier to go further on the track.
The next surprise was that the Motel next door had excellent food
The breakfast was excellent even with freshly baked muffins - Janice also gave some extra for later
In summary friendly and excellent
