“Still excellent and beautiful”

A surprising variety of rooms within traditional and modern buildings and all maintained to a high standard with a super restaurant.

The cheaper rooms are in the modern spar complex with the very large pool and judging by the number of Parisien number plates is very popular for visits at the weekend .

It is a very enjoyable well presented hotel complex and the restaurant has lovely views of the sea with beautiful food and reasonably priced bottles of wine (compared to Auberge Bretonne!) so ticks all the right boxes for a lovely place to stay for a few days. Some of the granite cottages have now been refurbished to a high standard so they are quite expensive to stay in but it maybe worth the money for a special treat.

Overall a great place to stay and all the facilities which you would expect including a spa.

“Fantastic Location”

We booked this hotel through Brittany Ferries, which seems to have been a very good deal and included a 4 course meal each night. We stayed for 3 nights at the end of October.
The room we had was very comfortable. We could see the sea, although we were not facing it, and looked out over well kept gardens. Our only problems with the room were that it was very dark (given the time of year we really needed another lamp in the room in order to be able to read at all) and there was no shower curtain. The bed was large and comfortable and the facilites were clean and in good order.
The swimming pool is superb. Large, warm and with bubble seats and jets around the sides. There is also a small jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and a plunge pool. The only very small downside with the pool was the usual impossibility of getting a lounger as they were all 'bagged' all the time.
The restaurant was superb. Apart from one steak which had not even seen the heat (I don't mind it rare, but this was still moo-ing!), which was cheerfully taken back and given a fleeting glance at some heat, we had fantastic food, just the right amount and beautifully presented. We were placed by the window, but as it was late October we could not see anything!
Staff were on the whole, pleasant, saying 'hello' in English when they passed us, and helpful.
Above all the location of this hotel is outstanding. The views are fantastic. The position on the coast is just fabulous. However, the hotel is a little remote. It is in a small village which is quite isolated. This did not bother us at all, but would be something to bear in mind if you are visiting this hotel as a car is needed.

“ROCHEVILAINE DEFINITELY NOT GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 September 2008

To celebrate my wife’s birthday I booked a week-end break at the Domaine de Rochevilaine Hotel, one of the Relais and Chateaux Chain of hotels, usually a guarantee of quality.
Budget : 700 Euros for one night including breakfast and evening meal for 2. At this price one would expect to have a good time.
Tne Junior suite we were shown to turned out to be no more than a big room, a quarter of which was just a long corridor. The bathroom and toilet facilities were in good repair, but old fashioned. Nothing exceptional, apart from the sweltering temperature which prevailed in the room. Most 4 star hotel bedrooms are air-conditioned, but not this one. Consequently, we had to sleep with the windows open and battle with the mosquitoes from surrounding marshlands all night.
The welcome at the Reception desk was insipid. When I ventured to enquire whether we could have a table (booked 2 weeks beforehand) in the left wing of the hotel overlooking the sea as a birthday treat, the reply was “the seating arrangements have already been finalized by the Maitre D” . We were given a table in the right wing against the wall and next to the air conditioning unit which would have been much more useful in our room than in the restaurant. We were eventually given a table - for 4 - in the main restaurant where we could admire the sea from afar. So much for a romantic evening for 2. The meal was enjoyable except for one dish which had so much cinnamon added that it was inedible.
To conclude, if you have 700 Euros tucked away for a special occasion, give this hotel a miss.

“Mixed feelings”

The hotel surroundings are beautiful, the location is unique.

However, I was a bit disapppointed when we were shown the room. We had a reservation for a duplex as we wanted some additionnal space. We expected a living area downstairs and a bedroom upstairs. In fact it was a kind of family accomodation, with two bedrooms but not a single couch or sofa. I would have appreciated that we were explained trhis on the phone when we made the booking!

The room itself was nicely decorated, may be it was a bit dated but all equipments (especially in the bathroom) were in perfect condition. We were staying in the main building, I guess there are some rooms with more charm. Next time I would try:
- the 'Manoir Renaissance',
- 'le loft des artistes',
- 'le manoir des cardinaux',
- 'le ma noir de la mine d'or'.

Avoid 'le manoir de l'Orient' as its windows open on the outside pool area, granting little privacy.

The bed was too soft for us but it depends on what you are used to at home. Breakfast is ok, you have to request fruit juice, your hot beverage and eggs, for the rest there is a classic buffet.

We have not tried the restaurant & spa, but close friends told us both were excellent.

“The total package, but not inexpensive!”

My wife and I splurged for our 45th anniversary and were not disappointed by this marvelous hotel. The setting is incredible and our suite overlooked the water. The hotel grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The public rooms, along with the restaurant, are oriented toward the water and take great advantage of marvelous vistas. There is an outdoor dining/cocktail area that is idyllic. We did not leave the property for two days and had all our meals on site. The dinners were particularly appealing, served in a rustic dining room with "drop dead" views of the water. The food was exceptional. One night we both ordered the tasting menu, which is paired with 7 French wines from different regions. It was a bargain at around $140 US Dollars and the food was superb. The next night we had fish encased in rock salt that melted in your mouth. If you like oysters, these are among the very best I've ever eaten and they are harvested within eyesight of the restaurant. The wine list is adequate and representative of the various regions in France. Overall, this is a marvelous travel experience from any indice you choose to apply: Location, setting, room, food and service! However, this combination does NOT come cheap, but it was worth it!
