Ever imagine yourself lulled to sleep by the sound of the ocean and popping up your head the next morning from your bed to see the sun rising over the caribbean through your cabana window? This is the real thing. Fantastic views, super friendly staff, very good food, and surprisingly clean facilities for a roughing-it sort of place. Weather was perfect. We were there a few days before rina went through. Thank you Hugo & Hugo, Cesar for a wonderful stay !

CESiaK is a once in a lifetime jewel! This very proactive eco-lodge is located in paradise which sits at the sand bank between the beautiful sparkling Caribbean Sea and the Sian Kaan lagoon on its Western side. What this means is that you get to really experience the best of two ideal worlds. The sunsets by the kayak dock at the lagoon, with a very necessary house margarita in hand, are a transcendent experience.

They tell us that this was what Cancun looked like some 30 years ago when the lagoon was pristine and the ocean side free of mega-resorts. Very sad indeed.

CESiaK is also the centre for all the best tours of Sian Kaan. Their staff are the most experienced and the love and care toward protecting their wonderful environment runs deep right through every staff member of CESiaK. Pepe, their manager, is a classic good guy who we had a brilliant time getting to know. He is the kindest kind of manager, super professional and absolutely out to help people have a life changing experience in this pristine, yet fragile ecosystem. He loves margaritas too, and believe me when I tell you that they make the absolute best here.

Our stay here was superb, and formed part of our Central American eco-tourism research project. CESiaK is without a doubt completely committed to conserving the environment and educating people on this issue. Their hotel is designed to collect rain water which is UV treated for human use. The greywater is treated in the biofilter gardens. They use no fossil fuel heavy air-conditioning and all their power comes from their UV solar panels. Apart from their strong commitment to minimizing their negative effects on the environment on a day to day operations basis, they extend much further to provide education seminars for local and international students. Their lodge contains an extensive library on the flora and fauna of Sian Kaan, as well as many reports on its ecosystem health and maps - CESiaK is the knowledge house of Sian Kaan. Likewise all their tours and tour guides are completely committed to this cause and are the most experienced in Sian Kaan, providing people with a lot more than just your average tour. If you want to know about the environment in Sian Kaan, you must visit CESiaK.

The food here is superb as well, all produce is sourced as locally as possible. CESiaK is committed to spreading the wealth, so rather than providing their own transport or farmers and fishermen, they rather commit to supporting the local economies. There is no place on earth like CESiaK and you will be glad you made a visit.

Spent four nights at Cesiak. Accommodation is in sturdy semi permenant tents under a palapa. Amazing views over the sea from our palapa, great for sunrise! Four nights was a bit too long for us as it is some way from restaurants etc of Tulum so you are quite isolated and Taxi from town costs circa 250 pesos. Would recommend it for a couple of nights to appreciate the setting and extremely peaceful atmosphere.

There is a restaurant and bar serving good mexican dishes. Amazing sunsets from the roof terrace over the reserve and great place for doing one of the nature tours they run from here. We did the full day boat tour which we would highly recommed.

We stayed in one of the cheaper double tent with palapa roof (no.14), which we thought were great. It had proper beds, clothes storage, a couple of water bottles (which you are encouraged to refill near the shower blocks), candles/matches and a covered terrace with both sea and lagoon views and a hammock and chair to sit in. The communal composting toilets and warm rainwater showers were also great and very clean - the staff seem to be continuously cleaning!

No.14 is a short walk from the access to the beach, the reception and restaurant/bar, which has spectacular views from its roof top (as does the shower block!). There are 15 tents in total with no.15 being furthest from the reception, and I think all apart from nos. 1 & 2 have good sea views. We enjoyed being close to the far end of the site as it felt very private, and it wasn't too far to the shower block as there are two - one being near tent 10.

At reception there are lockers for valuables with padlocks (which can be borrowed from reception), wifi and power points to charge electricals. The food at the adjoining restaurant was pretty good and reasonably priced (it's now priced in pesos), but I can imagine that if you were staying any longer than the 3 days we did without a car, it would be good if CESIAK had a communal kitchen/ bbq as well as the restaurant. However the only thing I would change about our stay was the weather - grey, wet and a little cold (very English)!!!
