“Enjoyable vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2012

We went from January 4-Jan 11, 2012 and had only 1 "cooler" day on the 5th. I had been to the Breezes in Varadero a few years ago and was hoping to go there again, but was placed here at the Jibacoa. I must say I am happy with the location, staff, room, pool and beach. We had pretty good service. The room was clean, we were in a building that was close to the beach, and had a nice view from the deck of the large hill in the background. We had no bugs or ants, and always had hot water for showering. I didn't go on the hike up the hill, but had talked to people who said it was a nice view from the top.

The Piano bar was our favorite location to hang out at in the evenings and the drinks were good there. We ate most of our lunch meals at the beach bar, as we wanted to make the best use of our "sun and beach" time. I quite enjoyed the fish there with a little bit of lime squeezed on top. The staff at the Beach bar are very friendly.

We went to Taberno's for the a la carte meal, however, there was some confusion as my ticket had the correct time/location/date, but they did not have us on either restaurants list. We were still able to eat, and our waitress was very good to us.

The reef is great, I was surprised to see so many fish so close to shore. The snorkelling seemed to be a very popular activity, and I also thought it was quite good.
We had been to Havana before on a previous visit with a tour group, so this time we took a taxi for 70 CUC. We were lucky to have a very nice tour guide accompany us and she took us to the places we wanted to see.

Room for improvement:
If you are looking for the ultimate in dining experiences and very tasty food, this place may not be for you. I did find the omelette and pasta stations to be very good and the baked goods (rolls/buns) were tasty. However, there were times when the food was on the cooler side. The juice is excellent!

I would come back to this resort as I was happy with the location and service, the snorkelling and the relatively short distance to Havana.

“Pleasant enough , but......”

We stayed at Breezes over the New Year, I won't write a long review as I would
just be repeating what others have already written. When we arrived, check in was pretty chaotic with lots of others arriving at the same time. We had no offer of help to carry our bags to the room, which was in Block 3, quite a way in the dark peering at a tiny map. The room was fine, an ocean view, comfortable bed, very clean and well maintained during our stay. We did usually have to ask for more coffee etc from the maid, but no problems. The beach was breezy so we usually sat by the pool in the day, no problem getting sunbeds or towels. The service at the pool bar was grudging , no smile, no conversation apart from 'bring your cups back' when we had coffee. Lunch at the beach bar was ok and the best meal of the day as it was cooked fresh to order. Breakfast was good and nice to get a smile from the egg man who actually seemed to enjoy his job. Dinner - well, what can I say, we are not fussy eaters and didn't go hungry but the lack of imagination and blandness meant we didn't gain weight! The food in the Cuban restaurant was truly dreadful and we barely ate a thing.
We opted for the Virgin overnight to Havana before we flew home, beware- the rep doesn't tell, you the hotel is actually right out of Havana the other side and so you gain very little, still have to have a coach in and lose all the inclusive benefits. I wouldn't recommend this excursion at all. The visit we made on our own using the local taxis was much better.
In all, we had a great time, we enjoyed the new year party and the setting of the hotel, the walks along the beach and trips into Havana, but would we stay again? No, the service and the food was just not good enough for us.

Room Tip: The ocean view room was worth the extra

“When Breezes blow”

Our second trip to a breezes resort and they were like night and day. First was to the now closed Rio Bueno Jamacia. If this had been half as good I would have been ok. The staff were friendly the property well cared for and the beach bar was great. The food was to say the least bland and not great. Lots of possible great food turned into cafeteria fare. Best meals at breakfast and alacarte restaurants. The problem being a one a week limit on each restaurant . Those with a weak stomache come prepared. Only local drinks unless you asked and got lucky , only local beers. The water was great bring water shoes the beach is a little rocky at the waters edge. The entertainment staff did really try but for the most part were summer camp at best. The Jamaica trip used hotel staff and was great. The rating of 4 to 4.5 stars not warranted 3 at best.

Room Tip: Go with ocean view and stay away from rooms around the pool

“Excellent Christmas/New Year holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 January 2012

we arrived christmas eve in the early evening and was attended to by reception very quickly and directed to our room (pity we were not offered a bell boy to take our cases as it was difficult to find in the dark carrying two cases after such a long tireing journey). Had aquick shower & meal & a couple of drinks half way through entertainment we realised jouney was catching up with us & went to bed. (The room was iarge, clean & bed very comfortable always hot water, towels changed regularly, sheets changed when we wanted by leaving a special card on bed provided by hotel) In morning awoke to find hotel was set in a fantastic position in a beautiful bay in lovely large well kept gardens, after a stroll round realised how well it was all laid out. The beach was long and and clean with plenty of sun beds as was the swimmming pool. Now, this is where we find it difficult to understand some other reviews as all the staff were very pleasant and cheerful and did a good job (perhaps it depends how you treat them? tips or not they were always good!). Aithough we came exspecting the food to be below par we found it to be good and varied and always something to suit everyone if though sometimes it could be hotter. We tried the italian restaurant but unfortunately it was the regular chefs night off! although everyone else we spoke to said it was excellent on other nights. The entertainment provided during our stay was very good (the professional bought-in acts). The only complaint we had was that it finished early at 10-10.15 and were regularly told that you could go on to the disco to dance which did not open till much later so any party mood was lost. The new years eve entertainment was very good with party bags & bubbly supplied to all. The animation/enterainment team were all quite pleasant but had the easiest job going as apart from volley ball the child like games they thought up only lasted 5 minutes. BARS - the piano bar was by far the best , the two barmen were excellent & made superb cocktails. Internationional brands & sparling wine were also available as part of the A/I all in real glasses. The other bars small disposable plastic glasses were provided. Take poly glasses is a good tip! Overall had an excellent holiday, though not for party animals, for us no children was added bonus.By the way bell boy did take cases to reception at end of holiday.

“Great Vacation”

We stayed at the Breezes Jibacoa from Dec.25th-Jan.2 2012. We arrived at the hotel at 3:30 a.m. They where ready for us when we arrived and check-in was very prompt. Rooms are large but abit out dated. Did sleep well and most times lots of hot water. Rooms where poolside 2168/2169 great location. We where on the upper floor so no bugs. This resort is small so getting from A to B was good. HouseKeeping was excellent. Buffet...well it's a buffet what more do I need to say. The Italian al la carte very good. Pool clean and warm. Beach was our favorite place to be, no hassles, brought out big bubba mugs ( a must have as glasses they give you are extremely small) This resort is a 14+ so we really enjoyed that. Our daughter (17) founds lots to keep her occupied and met some great youth from all over. We had a small issue later in the week, very happy with how staff and management handled everything. Entertainment in the evening was average/good. The entertainers worked hard and costumes where nice. New Years Eve was done well. Champagne provided, hats and noise makers for everyone. All in all a great vacation, I would definitly go back. I would say this resort is good for couples mostly and youth, not a place for singles to go who are looking for a party.

Room Tip: I brought small gifts for house keeping and the Bubba Mugs.
