“This is a great place to stay”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

I love this place……staff, location, ambience & pool. The beach is immediately beyond the well kept grounds and there is ample security at entrances & exits. So much is appealing at this resort although some rooms were looking a little tired during my stay at the end of 2011. There are enough eating options around - shacks on the beach, outside on the access road and in the hotel itself. Do not come to this resort if you are looking for an action filled holiday or a wide range of water sports, but do stay here if you want peace & quiet, a place to relax & unwind and if you like gentle strolls along wide sandy beaches.
There are a number of restaurant and tour touts outside the hotel, as well as on the beach, but they don’t hassle you too much, especially once you have been around for a day or so. Any issues with the front desk staff were resolved quite quickly, as I would expect in any hotel of note.
The 5* rating seems somewhat over ambitious at the moment, but there is certainly the potential to reach this standard.
I have stayed in more luxurious hotels and resorts around the world, but the Majorda Beach has the right blend of charm, location and facilities for my needs and its obvious appeal is demonstrated by the number of returning clients.
I would not hesitate to stay here again, indeed I intend to go back later in 2012.

“not quite a 5 star.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

to begin with, the 5 star status is a misnomer. not more than 3. seems to have run its course. old, lame, dirty and lousy. downside: everything! seems like it was built ages ago. lack of refurbishment and maintenance, seems to be in dire straits. looks pale ans stained. The rooms were clean but very lousy, Hotel bar has good view but smelled terribly. average food too. nowhere close to being more than 3 star. upside: beach, indoor pool. who cares, you get that and more in other actual 5 stars. completely avoidable. do not visit. you have plenty more options in goa.

“Would definitely question the 5 star rating!”

The overall family experience at the resort was one of dissapointment from start to finish. We were miss informed by booking staff about what our package contained, treated rudely by one the reception staff when booking in. The room we were allocated required constant visits from the maintenance guy as things were not working. Through the trip we felt left in the dark about what was offered at the resort, therefore losing out on much of the offered facilities. At times staff seemed ready to help but at other times we were greeted with blank looks as the language barrier appeared to be problematic. The one thing I would remember from my stay at the resort was the beautiful view from the beach. I have stayed at resorts ranging in star rating and found my stay at some three star resorts more comfortable, would definitely not revisit.

“UPDATE”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 January 2012

We are still reading opposing views about the Majorda Beach Resort. Sometimes it is what you make of specific occurrences rather than the whole package. We made that point (we think) in our previous review. We have been to this hotel for many years and sometimes more than once in a year. We have looked at others but we keep going back as do a number of other couples we have met there and keep meeting. Our advice is that it is very important to look at the plus factors and deal with the negatives as you see fit. We have found that when we have had a problem and spoken to an appropriate member of staff (including the Duty Manager) in a firm but pleasant manner then it has been resolved to our satisfaction with only a very few left unresolved.
We note that there have been complaints about the “hotel taxis”. We used these for many years, but we had the same driver, who was very good. When ‘they’ insisted that we took the next in line, we stopped using them as we decide whom we pay and trust our lives with not them. There are other taxis in the village that are licensed and with good drivers. Sara (Sephra) (Tesco) has 3 taxis with good drivers and different cars. In addition, they are cheaper than the “hotel taxis” – you can use the price board in the hotel as a guide.
With regard to the increased number of Russians. We have found that generally they like the beach during the day. There are many shacks to get away from them if you want. The beds around the wonderful swimming pool are rarely crowded and there is also the large garden to escape to. Over the last few years we have found several Russian couples very charming and friendly – they are not all the same, if you are prepared to go half way!! Many like to practice their English!! In addition, the hotel has Russian Representatives whom we have found charming and very helpful in dealing with problems if they occur with Russian guests.
As for eating on the beach, the Tandoori chicken at either Lavina’s shack (see Jeevan who is very obliging) or Sam’s Goan Shack is delicious. It is worth pre-ordering as it has to be marinated for best results and it saves along wait, unless you do not mind waiting. Fish is always good at Mishmar – try the English fish (shark) and chips for a real treat. The batter is beer based and melts in the mouth. We would also recommend King Crab and Samhen in the village for good food at reasonable prices.

Room Tip: It depends what you want. It is possible to e-mail the hotel to tell them your wishes. Read some of...

“needs millions spending on refurb, not rupees!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 January 2012

Having stayed here many years ago, it has not changed at all. it was tired then, now it is dire. The bathroom was a disgrace, the tiles and grouting were worn and black, the sanitary wear was stained, through old age, the door frame was rotting. Plumbing was inadequate, no water for periods, toilet flush not working at times.
The room was clean but very tired, again flaking paint on paintwork doors etc. Welcoming letter talks of Majorda Beach Resort 5 star luxury fails miserably. 3 star standard at best .Hotel bar smelled musty only visited once.
Breakfast mediocre but enjoyed by the many Russians staying. Location great only thing in its favour.

Room Tip: Do not visit
