“Home from Home”

The best bed & breakfast I have ever stayed in, and one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. This family-owned and run home oozes warmth, relaxation and fun. You get a strong sense of being completely looked after. We were hopeless travellers - losing a passport and getting a sprained ankle. They took it in their stride and made sure our weekend went ahead as planned. You truly felt like friends popping in to stay for the weekend - you could join in the group, or have enough privacy to be alone. Rooms were warm (chill of November was just kicking in), cosy, clean, comfortable, quiet with cute aesthetic touches to make it feel like home. Common rooms were inviting and great to be in at all times. Breakfast was local produce, fresh and masses of it. Prices were very good value. The cooking class was useful and enjoyable. Dinner was excellent (we had a hand in the cooking of it!), wine was great, and atmosphere was brilliant. No negatives. All positives. PS Keep this B&B a secret - just between you and me ;-)

“"A delightfully quiet step back in time"”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 October 2011

This is a terrific place to visit. Quiet and relaxing, when compared with the traffic and crowds encountered in Rome and the Amalfi Coast. Candelaria is a step back in time to a medieval, walled, hill-top town, with narrow cobbled streets and no cars within the walls. But no problem parking outside the walls, with only a short walk up to La Torretta. The surrounding area in the Sabine Hills has rolling hills and several other similar hill-top towns, amongst olive groves and small wineries. There are far fewer tourists, than found in the more well advertised spots, and even the cars behave in an orderly manner! Maureen, Roberto and family, including the happy grandchildren, are very welcoming and helpful. Their home is a delightful 15th Century large house, with mod cons, great views and shows off, in the guest lounge and bedrooms, original wall murals, which have been exposed by professional removal of overlying layers of subsequent decoration. Also, not to be missed when you are there, is Johnny Madge's unique wine bar a few steps down the street. Johnny organises olive and wine tours in the area. If you are lucky to get your timing right you can have a great home cooked dinner in Franco's Palazzo home, which Maureen organises. This visit to Casperia was the highlight of our recent trip to Rome and the south.

“Warm atmosphere in a magical place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 October 2011

La Torretta is the perfect place to get away to a world where time seem to be standing still. We loved staying in the beautiful historic house filled with the warmth and friendliness of Maureen, Roberto and Jennifer. The rooms are very generous and the views spectacular. Maureen is always at hand with plenty of insider tips on how to explore the beautiful countryside around Casperia. Our favourite moments where spent sitting by the fire in the evening with a bottle of Chianti.

“Wonderful B&B in stunning location”

This is a fabulous place! The house is beautiful with fabulous views from the terrace and Maureen, Roberto and Jennifer are perfect hosts. Casperia is an extraordinary maze of wonderful streets and buildings with a timeless quality of peace and tranquillity. You can spend all day wandering happily around Casperia - there’s a simple but adequate restaurant in the town and don’t miss Johnny Madge’s wine bar just down the street from La Torretta - but there’s plenty to see in the surrounding Sabine Hills and Rome is just an hours drive away.

“Charming B&B, great food and wine!”

We had a great time in Casperia staying at La Torretta during our honeymoon. We were only there for two nights, but wished we could have stayed longer! The owners were great, and the views were wonderful. We did a cooking class which was amazing. Several of the other guests had visited multiple times, which really speaks for La Torretta, being located in a fairly remote town. I hope we'll be able to return one day too!
