“Superb spot and great service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2011

The Villa has superb views over the river and hills, whilst still being only a short ride from Kandy. Breakfast on the terrace is therefore a real treat and very relaxing, whatever the weather is doing. The food is good here. The Curries for evening meal were the best we tasted during our 2 weeks in Sri Lanka. We are also having withdrawal symptoms from the round shortbread biscuits served with excellent filter coffee and teas during the day.
Volker and his team organised some great trips for us. They went at the pace we wanted and were very flexible. Highly recommended.
The service at the Villa is great. The whole team wants you to have a great time. But they were exceptional when my son had to go into hospital unexpectedly, organising transport, bringing flasks and blankets to the hospital and following up. We cannot thank them enough.

“Fabulous hotel - like staying with friends”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 January 2011

We stayed at Villa Rosa for two nights shortly after Christmas. Two families with late teenage / early 20 somethings. The place is fabulous. Great location, delightful architecture and overlooking the city and the river. The food was wonderful and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. For sure, Villa Rosa is not a bland 5-star 'western' hotel if that's what you want, in terms of facilities, but so much the better for that. The star of the show was the German owner who doubled as the best concierge and tour guide ever. Nothing was too much trouble. Cannot recommend Villa Rosa too highly. We would love to go back

“Excellent a hidden gem, views hotel and service second to none.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 September 2010

On honeymoon in Sri Lanka we arrived in Kandy tired after our long journey from the hill country. We were warmly welcomed by Volker the owner and his lovely staff. The room was beautiful, clean and large with a lovely four poster bed. It was furnished with lovely antique furniture, a good choice of artefacts and décor. The view is the best view I have ever seen from a hotel amazing, you can sit and have your meals looking out down the lazy river and mountains. The hotel is quiet and peaceful tranquil places away from the bustle of Kandy town centre only a short tuc tuc ride down the hill. Volker and his staff gave my husband a birthday cake and a gift from his birthday this made our stay very special they could not do enough for us. The food was the best we had in Sri Lanka and we will definitely be going back, not to be missed. Thanks for a wonderful stay. They also have their own driver who was also excellent. Use of a nearby hotels swimming pool lovely, with free tuc tuc service thrown in.

“Hard to find, but worth the effort!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 August 2010

We liked it! Villa Rosa is a friendly, clean and quiet boutique guesthouse on top of a hill overlooking the Mahaweli river. The owner (German) and staff (Sri Lankan) are extremely helpful and provide a very personalised service for each party of guests. They take the time to chat and give advice/organis tours etc. if required. The breakfast is excellent, consisting of a fruit platter, eggs/omelette, toast, tea or coffee. Rice and curry for dinner is also highly recommended. The room we stayed in was clean and nicely furnished. Compared to other places we stayed in Sri Lanka, Villa Rosa is definitely towards the upper end of the accommodation range.

It is important to know that the hotel does not provide accommodation for drivers and is a little bit difficult to find. Generally a Tuk Tuk from downtown Kandy to Villa Rosa takes about 15 minutes (provided the driver knows where he is going).

All in all a great peaceful place to stay for people who prefer quality boutique hotels .
