“Dirty ,Dirty, Dirty”

If going on a budget holiday you no in advance that you cant expect to be staying at the Ritz or Hilton but I do expect the living conditions to be clean.
When we arrived at Le Domaine de lárselle we first had to spend just over an hour to clean our appartment. We found dirty dishes in the dishwasher and left over food in the fridge. The floor was coverd in sand and lots and I meen lots of dust under the furniture. This even after the appartments get checked by staff after guests check out after their stay.
The local reps from snowtrex had an appartment in our building. You would think that they would look after the place some what.....not in the least I can tell you.
We discoverd in our building one morning in the stairwell some sheets that had been vomited on and urinated on. Outside the door of the local reps we found a plastic bag with used tampons and bloody sanitary towels. This stood there till the end of our stay. At the entrance of the building stood some dirtbags. These also stood for days in the sun and nothing was done about it. The local reps had to walk past them every day to get to the car.
Talking about the car... They parked the car right at the entrance of the building making it hard to walk past with your skiing gear. On the wallm of the building is a notice board telling guests that it is not permitted to park because the entrance is also an escape exit.
We went with 4 adults and stayed in a 6 pers appartment. I would never of guest how to fit 6 people in such a small space.
I would never in my life go back to this place. Chamrousse is nice and the slopes are good but the restraunts and pups sure no how to charge.... a small panini sandwich for 6,50 euro or 3,50 euro for a paper cup of coffie ( instand coffie by the way )

People be warned....... dont go there or at least do not stay at Le domaine lárssele

“Value for Money”

My wife and I booked with snowtrek a 4 person apartment. For the 2 of us it was fairly spacious with sufficent hanging space for the two of us. If there had been four in the apartment i think storage would have been a real issue. However, the apartment was clean, the sheets which you have to pay 20 euros for had stains on them, which we believed to blood! However, the snowtrek reps were very apoligetic and gave us replacements. I have no doubt that at some point the sheets will end up being laundered and given to the next unsuspecting punter.

The resort of 1700 is fairly quite, it only has 1 restuarant La Bachat which is very nice but you do need to pre-book if you want to eat. However, their is a regular free buss service to Chamrousse 1750 & 1650 where there are more than enough bars and restaurants.

The one thing i can say about the whole Chamrousse resort is that it is very quiet during the week. So if your after a lively Apre Ski scene your in the wrong place. However, for beginners its excellant. My wife was a beginner and i'm an advanced skier so she had pletty of Blues & Green runs to learn on and i had the challenging Reds & Black over at 1650 to keep me entertained. If however your both Red & Black types then Chamrousse again is not the place for you!

“great value for money”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 January 2011

I can highly recommend this resort, we travelled there via car a family of 5 (2 adults, 3 children two of which teenagers and one 5 year old). We went with a company called snowtrex which charged us approx £650 for one week which was accommodation and ski passes included in the price, we could not believe our luck and took plenty of money just in case as it seemed too good to be true but sure enough thats exactly what we got. The queue for checkin was a little crowded and after the long drive was a little annoying but when we got our keys were pleasantly surprised with the rooms. The snowtrex reps were really friendly and were quite easy to find plus had an office which was open at the same time everyday if we needed them which to be honest everything was so straight forward so were rarely needed by us. THE ROOMS:-They were basic but clean we had 2 double bedrooms and a pull out sofa so plenty of sleeping space for 5 of us. There was a table with 6 chairs and the cooking facilities were a microwave and 4 ringed hob (no oven) and a small filter coffee machine. The cupboards were fully equipped with plates bowls glasses and coffee cups (although the coffee cups were tiny) saucepans and a frying pan and all types of cutlery were present too. All beds had a pillow and blankets but no bed linen but this you can hire for a small fee. There was heating in the rooms and we had spectacular views from our rooms. You could hire a tv for a fee, we didnt do this so am not sure what channels were available. The bathrooms- one had a separate toilet and the other had a washbasin and a bath with shower attached. When leaving the apartment you can either book cleaning for a fee (we were quoted 47 euros) or you have to do it yourselves which to be honest took us no longer than an hour to do as there was a broom, dustpan and brush and mop in the cupboard and i had bought washing up liquid and scouring pads from home. THE RESORT:- The resort we were in (chamrousse 1750) was small and everything was easy to find the slopes were a few hundred meters away and shops, restaurant, bar, swimming pool and ski hire were the same so very easy to get to. There was only one main restaurant which had an ok menu but was about 13 euros per meal. The bar nearby was expensive we paid 3.50 euros for a can of coke and 7 euros for a pint of lager. The roads were cleared when it snowed and were easy to drive on so we could get to other parts of chamrousse easily where there were more shops and other things to do. THE DOWNFALLS:- we took plenty of english money but couldnt find anywhere in chamrousse to change it, not even the hotels or post office had the facilities to do it so ended up withdrawing euros from a cash machine and used cards. The night life is limited to eating and going to the bar where the music was loud but didnt find any entertainment in chamrousse 1750, we didnt venture out at night so not sure if there is any in other parts of chamrousse. The shop had limited basics (mainly french food types) which as much as we eat french food we missed a few of our home favourites, so would suggest bringing some food with you. All in all it was well worth the money and would definatly go again especially for the value.

“Terrible.”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2010

If you want to wait 2 hours to check in, like a dirty shower/bath, enjoy terrible service, and a prefer a freezing cold swimming pool, this place is for you. Having lived in France for the past 7 years, I am no stranger to quirky customer service but this place has taken Gallic indifference to new lows. The ski resort of Chamrousse is located just 30-45 minutes from Grenoble. We have skied there before but decided to try a summer stay. Choosing the Domaine de l'Arselle was a terrible mistake. The resort is clearly understaffed so check in was a fiasco. Two hours outside in the pouring rain before getting our apartment keys was our initiation. It was galling to see an endless number of staff flapping about with just 5 working reception. When I suggested (in French) to the staff that a manager should explain the wait or that some of the staff standing around should get to work, the reaction was impolite and indifferent. Repeated requests to see the manager were greeted with vacant stares. Our apartment had a beautiful view but the hair in our shower and dirty cultery were less charming. The buildings were generally unkept with peeling walls, water damage etc. The pool was no surprise - dirty with freezing cold water. The resort offered activities for the kids - we expected the worst and weren't disappointed. We strolled past the 'kids camp' meeting point and were greeted with techno music, a lot of teen counsellors standing around smoking, and a deflated soccer ball. We laughed (what was there left to do?). A nice resort with bad management in desperate need of a good scrub, some repairs, and more non-smoking staff over the age of 19. Until then, avoid.

“great ski resort on a budget and short transfer from grenoble”

this is a fantastic resort for families with young children. we travelled with 2 teenagers and 3 younger children. we booked with ski bed and found them to be really easy to deal with and even spent time on the phone explaining exactly where the apartment was. when booking i would strongly advise the following , ask to be in the asters or joubarbes block as these are the nearest to the ski lift, some of the blocks are a good 5 mins walk on very icy path. bring your own towels if possible they charge for towels and linen. there is only 2 restaurants so book for every night on your first night you can always cancel if you dont want it. when checking in they ask you to return an inventory and to book a cleaning inspection and to leave a 300 euro deposit. the only time left for inspection for us was at 830 am our bus was collecting us a 2pm so this was too long for us to wait around, we decided not to book an inspection to give us longer in the apt . we sent the children to return the linen to reception (a long 5 min walk) and didnt leave the apt until about 11. we left all our cases in the ski locker downstairs until 2pm, and our apt was still free at that time. the ski slopes were fantastic with lots for every level of skier. a really lovely resort perfect for families but dont go there if you want a luxury apartment. this accomodation is very clean but very basic with very hard beds ! the 6 person apt is really only big enough for 2 adults and 2 children. i cant imagine 6 adults or even 4 adults being comfortable.
