This is a beautiful spot, and an immaculate chambres d'hotes. Rooms were very tranquil and comfortable. I booked our room "Aubriete" about 6 weeks in advance, confirmed with our credit card number. About 2 weeks prior to our arrival, I heard from the owner telling us that they had had a problem with their email bookings, and they could not give us our requested room. Instead, they offered us a much smaller room which I declined. When i told them i would cancel the booking and look elsewhere for accommodations," Aubriete" suddenly became available, and we were back in. This should have tipped me off that there was something wrong with this picture. Nevertheless, we were greeted upon arrival, and shown our beautiful room. In it, there was a little black "guest book" with a list of rules as long as my arm. One of which was no food or drink in the room. Guess a wine spill or two might stain the crisp linens. OK. I respect that. That's why the place looks like it does. The owners are overly fussy about little things. However, they adhere to their own rules when it's convenient for them. Case in point...i arrived promptly at 8:30am for breakfast our 1st morning, and was told to come back in 10 minutes. Breakfast wasn't ready yet. I couldn't even sit at the table and have my coffee. Our hosts were busy entertaining their house guests (presumably the folks that were supposed to get my room) and it became clear over the weekend that the comfort and needs of their friends were their highest priority. That evening, as the paying guests were trying to sleep, music came blaring out of the stereo system invading the entire house into the wee hours. My husband actually got out of bed to tell them to shut it off to no avail. Seems one of the friends had left it on and the entire party had gone out for the evening. In the morning, at breakfast, our hosts, busy again with the friends, offered no apology. Our requests for coffee refills were ignored. Our shabby treatment was much the topic of conversation among the other guests the breakfast table. We had all felt the extreme irony of these overly fastidious innkeepers and how no one would have minded a stain or two on the rug if we had been made to feel more welcome.
