“Great facilities - totally rip off”

Ok, this is going to a long one....
After having stayed at hotels in 185 cities spread over 36 countries, I must admit that this is the worst experience I have had so far.

This hotel was booked to host a 55 person gourmet dinner and stay over.

This is a typical example of a farmer who turns his beautifully located farm into a hotel - conference center - golf hotel, and then feels free to do anthing to the guests in the name of greed.

ROOMS:
I only saw one of their dbl. rooms.
Nice and clean, very small and only 20 by 20" window, which could not open.
Low value for the price of the room.

APPARTMENTS:
As I understand it, the appartments are privately owned but the hotels rents them out when not used by their owners.
Beautiful appartments, stunning view, spa, sauna, flat screen.
Just perfect.

HOUSE KEEPING:
Not up to Scandinavian standars.
(no towels, linnen, dusty furnitures though we checked in at the time requested by the hotel)

CHECK IN:
Smooth and easy, good parking

DINNER:
Our dinner was booked as gourmet dinner with a selection of good (and expensive) wines. The room we was supposed to stay in was the main restaurant, cosy and nice.
After having dressed for dinner everybody went the restaurant and was redirected to big dark room on the first floor.

STARTER:
Looking forward to this gourmet dinner, we realized that the starter was a buffet with 6 various salads and a non english speaking chef was handing out SMALL portions consisting of 2 sorts of hot meal (fish). The fish was nice and tasty, salads were what you would expect in any low budget family restaurant.
Further we were charged to pay 20 USD for tap water to the wine.
As I dont drink wine I realized that this night would cost me at least 150$ - just in tap water.......

In the same second everybody had this small portion on their plate, the owner showed up and, unasked, gave a 32 minutes lecture about the hotel. This was a real killer as everybody had been looking forward to meet and talk, and for all that time we were kept as hostages by a uninvited and very poor lecture.
After this rude interference of our private party, our food was cold, and those who wanted a litte more went to the buffet to realize that during the lecture all food had been taken out. When asking for more we were told that this was not available, and some metioned that they would rather have had a second round at the buffet than listening to the owner. More about this during main course.

MAIN COURSE:
Still hoping that the gourmet chef would kick in and serve us something that would make us all forget about the horrible starter and the even worse unsolicited entertainment.
Once again changes were made. They didnt serve us the prebooked dinner but we were to go the buffet and get served. When I saw the buffet I saw the same 6 salads as we had for starter. The nice but non english speaking chef was handing out either pork, lamb or chicken.

I had the chicken. 1 piece of plain boiled chicken breast, with no garniture or anything other than the 6 average salads.

My wife had the lamb and all she got was a small lamb chop the size of a golf ball.

NOW the owner broke the news that because someone had critisized his lecture, and leave the room after dinner not being able to hang and talk to 1 AM as agreed to.

This created a really bad vibe as everybody was so disappointed.

DESSERT:
Was served on a plate and the only thing the would have the slightest to do with a gourmet dinner. But due to the changes, bad food and really bad attitude from the owner, nobody enjoyed it.

BREAKFAST:
Nice with various choices.

STAFF:
Very sweet and helpful. But brought in from Eastern Europe, speaks very poorly english and no danish at all.
Poor guys, the same people who cleaned up after the party at 1:30 am, were there serving our breakfast.

CHECK OUT:
Well the transaction is smooth and easy. But having to pay 5 % extra for enviromental charges and for using a foreign credit card just nails that this is gold digging at its worst.

FORGOTTEN ITEMS:
My daughter left a small sleeping pooh bear, when calling the hotel they were friendly. The called back and told us they found it, but we had to send them an paid for envelope for them to return the pooh bear in, as it is too expensive for them just to send it.

This las episode is what really upset me and made me invite you all to share my stay at the NIGHTMARE OF HOTELS.

Somehow I just want to forget this terrible ecperience but before I do that I want to warn you all. This is a place that has all facilities to be the best place in Scandinavia.

Instead the facilities are just a simple trick to lure you in and then start digging your pockets. It reminds of my dads saying in similar situations:

THIS IS REALLY CLASS, SAID THE ANT AS IT WAS ENTERING THE HORSES A..

“Cosy hotel with a great view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2007

Benniksgaard Hotel is at the site of an old farm with most rooms in the stable building and the luxury rooms in the main building. The hotel is connected with a golf centre and overlooks the golf course towards the Flensburg fjord.

Most rooms have a unique character and fairly modern decor. The regular rooms are not particularly large, and there are not many facilities apart from a TV featuring a selection of Scandinavian, German, and English channels as well as a telephone and an Ethernet port for internet access. This is free of charge but wireless access it not available in the rooms.

There is no minibar or room service but the restaurant serves good food at night and there is a limited bar available. There is also a bar and restaurant at the next door golf centre and a pizza place just around the corner. Many good restaurants are available in nearby towns.

Some of the regular rooms offer a limited view over the fjord but if you really want to pamper yourself and have no objection to shelling out a bit extra for your room, ask for one of the small suites with a direct view of the fjord.

Breakfast is okay without being impressive. Typically, there is a selection of cereals, freshly baked bread, rolls, cheese, ham etc. A hot breakfast is not available. The view from the breakfast room is excellent, though.

The staff is always friendly and check-in and check-out is generally quick and easy.

Maintenance could be slightly better in some areas and most rooms are equipped with rather bad TV sets.
