“Great Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

Had 26500 Marriott points so decided to blow some on a night away with the family as we'd been working pretty long hours. Went with my wife, nearly 2 year old and nearly 6 year old boys. We only live about 30 minutes away. I had booked over the phone to make sure we had a family room, crib etc etc. All was ready and extremely friendly reception.

No issues checking in and room was great. They made sure we had a corner room so not too noisy. Nice touch. Not sure if they meant noise coming in, or going out, but hey! We went straight down to the pool and had a nice swim. Everything clean and immaculate. nice gym, but as am nursing a knee injury was a no go zone.

After swim took kids for their tea in the Zest pub and was great with good kiddies menu and boys loved their burgers and sausages. Once they were asleep we got dressed up and went for three course meal in Broadstreet with wine, gin and all triimings. Only uncool thing was baby monitor.. Great food and good wine selection. Chef sent us a bit of curry soup as an apero and was simply amazing, best ever. Had great night, fact that 2 year old screamed the place down at 03:00 was not the hotel's fault. Wine helped....

Went for another swim in the morning, then great breakfast and off home. Love the Marriott chain, but this one is even a bit better, especially for families.

Room Tip: With families go for 502.

“Stayed on business”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

I have stayed here for business for 3-4 days each time, the hotel itself could do with a lick of paint here and there but overall it is ok, set within a golf course its pool and leisure suite gives the hotel its edge on others in the area. Rooms were good with comfortable beds and a good shower something I always look for in a hotel. The food in the Zest bar restraint isn’t that great, frozen fries, roast potatoes, onion rings etc just not freshly made etc sorry chef, on the brighter note breakfast was good with a cheery chef ready to put on freshly fried and poached eggs cooked to your pleasing.

Cleaning staff and breakfast waitresses etc were the most friendly of all staff I encountered and I found some of the restaurant and bar staff ever so slightly inexperienced, they seemed to be working like robots from a crib sheet, e.g. they have been shown how to do things robotically but some don’t seem to have a personality, or a personal touch to the services, what I did see appeared false, sorry folks just how I felt.
If I was asked to score this hotel out of 10 and from my personal opinion would award it a 6

Room Tip: from the two i have stayed in a twin double had more room, but i didn't pay extra there were 2 d...

“Good base for South Hampshire, Portsmouth and Southampton”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

We live 4 miles away from this hotel and have been leisure club members for nearly 10 years so we know it well. We only stayed at the hotel for the first time in December when we went to one of their Christmas Party nights.

The hotel is sent in countryside with an 18 and a 9 hole golf course. It is about 15 minutes drive from either junction 7 or junction 10 of the M27 and less than 30 minutes drive to either Southampton or Portsmouth. Southampton Airport is about 20 minutes by car.

There is a good leisure club with a 12 metre by 8 metre pool, sauna, steam room and small Jacuzzi (6 people). There are two big gyms, one well stocked with aerobic equipment such as treadmills, cross trainers, bikes and step machines. The other gym is a cardio gym with a good range of weights machines and free weights as well as rowing machines.

We have eaten in the main restaurant (The Broadstreet) a number of times and the food and service is good. Breakfasts are the usual Marriott buffet with a big choice of everything you could want. We have also eaten in the Zest Bar; food is good although service is generally slow so make sure you are not in a hurry!

Much of the hotel was refurbished a few years ago so everything is of a pretty high standard. The room we stayed in was a standard room but was fine and the bed was of the usual high Marriott standard. Reception staff were friendly and efficient.

The is a large car park but this can be full at times especially in the summer when there are a lot of golfers on the course.

“Pre Cruise Deal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

We booked this hotels pre-cruise deal for our cruise in January 2012. The deal included room with bed & breakfast, parking for up to 21 days, transfers to and from the Cruise Terminal in Southampton. Our booking also gave us two complimentary 30 minute spa sessions.

GOOD POINTS
1. The Hotel is hidden from the road, but the SatNav took us straight to the door. The out of town location, probably affords better security for your car, and also provides a lovely outlook.
2. Check-in and parking facilities were excellent with friendly and helpful reception staff.
3. Our room was good, clean and in good order (although two of the lamps did not work) with interactive LCD TV with limited free channels, but pay option for films.
4. Breakfast was excellent with a good choice of hot and continental options.
5. The complimentary spa options were excellent my wife chose a mini manicure and I had a back, neck and shoulder massage, which I would recommend.
6. Transfers to and from the Cruise Terminal were excellent, very friendly and chatty. On our return we called the taxi firm from the ship with our disembarkation time and the taxi was there waiting when we got off the ship.

POOR POINTS
1. The Zest bar and restaurant, there was dried mud on the floor in the bar area (which to be fair may have been left by someone coming in from the golf course), but the food we found to be expensive and of poor quality.

Overall though this package provided a leisurely start to our cruise holiday for not a great deal more than the port parking fee. (£179.00 at the time of booking).
