“Nice premises-terrible staff”

We stayed there for 5 nights, in a bungalow right next to one of the main pools.
The location of the bungalow, the gardens and the beach are probably the only things we enjoyed. The room itself does not correspond to a 5 stars hotel.
The food (breakfast and dinner) was poor and not tasty, except for the salads. I absolutely agree with the review of Ruxandra35.
Three things to mention on the negative side:
1.When we checked-in we had to wait for 25 minutes for someone to take us to our room with one of the hotel's electric carts.
2.Since we arrived late at the hotel (around 22.00) we lost the first night's dinner and asked if we could have a lunch instead, on one of the 5 days of our stay.
They said we could only have that lunch on the day of our departure, which was not possible from our side, because we wanted to depart early since we had a 4-hours drive ahead of us. They would not let us have that lunch on any other day and therefore we never had that lunch.
3.We visited the bar one afternoon and ordered 1 cofee and 1 fruit punch. They were both given to us in paper cups. Unbelievable for a 5* hotel.
I could mention a few more, but they are not worth the trouble

“Poor service - Not worth the money”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 5 September 2010

My husband and I spent almost a week in this hotel, looking for a relaxed holiday. The place is huge and looks good, and we liked the beach and the souroundings. Although, very expensive, the SPA was good as well.
Beyond that, not much to say on the positive side:
- We were asked for an extra 70 EUR for All Inclusive (lunch and dinner) innitially. When we decided (on arrival) that we would like to try that, the reception asked for 100 EUR. Since this was above what a Greek meal costs we decided not to take it. We managed to eat better than in the hotel in the nearby tavernas for prices like 30 EUR (2 people etc);
- The food was terrible - we almost couldn't eat at breakfast. We noted the same food being served from yesterday's dinner or lunch, very few and badly tasting vegetables - and no health food at all; The fruits were limited to apples and nectarines and they were dirty. Most mornings we had do check our plates and cups and often replace them because they were not clean. Staff was impolite and sometimes there were long lines for waiting to enter the main restaurant without any understandable reason.
-The one menu restaurants at the hotel we tried, was extremely overpriced and the staff was unbelievably rood to us
- The sports facilities were not available as advertised. The minigolf was entirely unavailable due to construction work and the tennis court could be rented for an extra 8 EUR per hour. However, when we tried to rent 1 hour there was nobody there we could talk to. The gym was pretty basic and opened for less hours than advertised.
- The rooms are Ok, we had one with a private pool however, they are not even close to 5 star rooms. Bathrooms leave much room for improvement.
Overall, we managed to ignore most of the above since we were determined to enjoy our holiday but we will never go back there and would not recommend the place for the money they are charging.

“Peaceful, Relaxing and Amusing Time Off”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 September 2010

My wife, my 2 year old son and I visited the resort in the high season period of August and in general lines we are more than happy for choosing this resort for our summer vacations. The resort is very big giving the feeling of a small village. You can have walks along the long sandy beach or rent a bike and ride along the beach on a very nice stone path in front of it. The beach is enormous large with white sand, it is never crowded with many umbrellas and sun beds without charge for the people staying in the hotel. Pools are really amazing, huge, with bars and a really nice environment. Small bridges, plants, even water slides.
We booked all inclusive and were very pleased with the buffet for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food is very good and there are a kids and a healthy section buffet with a huge variety of dishes with an emphasis on the Greek cuisine. Breakfast is not so exciting especially the English breakfast varieties (Sausages are not very tasty and bacon is with to much fat on it) but in general lines the food is good but not 5 star gourmet. The very good thing with the main buffet restaurant “OLYMPIA” is that the service is like a 6+ star restaurant. Very quick entrance with many tables and every day we got a very nice sea view table and a really professional service. The Restaurant manager “Christos” is a Treasure. Always with a smile, making you feel warm and friendly. All the other waiters and people are so nice in this restaurant better than any restaurant we visited with my wife in the past years. And believe us we know about good restaurants. Nothing you ask was too much for this people. Baby seats, putting the food for the baby in the blender, they even prepare fresh crepes every day for breakfast and the wine list was very good.
Bungalows are very large with own gardens, sea view or swimming pool. We choose the one with the private garden and independent (not in a block) and we had a very comfortable stay without anyone to disturb or being disturbed. Decorations of rooms are kind of old fashion and not so luxurious for a 5 star hotel, but in main lines the whole environment of the resort makes you to forget this matter. There was no flat TV, but an old TV with an electrical problem and after we insisted on changing it, they did the next day and everything was OK. Take also note that the bathing tubs and shower don’t have plastic bath mats to avoid slipping. Showering a baby can be very dangerous! We noticed that everywhere the environment is calm and silent for relaxing but be aware that the most bungalows are not independent and shared pool bungalows have a serious lack of privacy. Also in this kind of bungalows, silence is a matter of who will be your neighbor.
Beach towels are another negative matter. You can change them with the beach boy who is available only 3 particular time frames per day and in many occasions he had not available towels. Trying to remember that you have to go between 15:00 – 15:30 for towels change the moment you are relaxing and having fun at the beach and if you are 5 minutes late you need to wait until 18:00 and then finding out that he run out of clean towels isn’t pleasant at all. Reception took care with sending towels to the room, but this is a matter you should not have in mind in a 5 star resort.
The Kids club is really amazing. Our son had a very nice time there. The girl in charge there “Gogo” is lovely and very professional. You can even leave your child there for baby sitting. Where he can play, go to the baby pool and have many activities. Snacks are also available there for our little treasures.
The animation team of those crazy Italians is very good. Even we grown up people needed to hold our bellies with our laughing. Especially the “Dallas” show was amazing. The minus is that due to many Russians in this resort, every second day, they had an animation show with singing and dancing with Russian wanna be stars which wasn’t amusing at all. In many cases they didn’t had the sensibility to speak at least in English, making the 40% of the hotel who wasn’t Russian feel like strangers.
I left the SPA for the end because from our scope of view I must say that this is the weak point of this resort. Aldemar is very proud for this SPA, but we faced something very lower than a 5 star ISO proofed SPA. First of all they promote the Turkish bath with the steam bath out of order, or as they said to me its not to hot because of following the ISO standards. The thing is that I paid 2 times for a steam bath and there was no steam at all. Also the Steam bath is too small. Only 4 people the same time. You have to pay for sauna and steam bath even when you have arranged a treatment which is unacceptable. Affusion massage is nice with the warm rain of sea water while you get the massage, but I had 4 different massages and must say that although all therapists were very friendly and professional they appeared to me as not experienced, except a Turkish girl (Shenay) who was more confident and know what to do. Another thing is that when you get to the spa nobody from the reception gives you a tour of the spa in order to see the amazing facilities of the thallaso treatment. You can’t use the Sauna and steam bath if you haven’t paid for it, so you can go only from the reception to the changing room and then to the treatment room so you don’t get the whole picture. If people could use the indoor pool or the sauna and steam bath it would be friendlier and customers would chose more easily treatments since they could come in touch with the environment. Environment which you can come in touch only verbally with the SPA promotion girls in the main hotel reception, with the one Russian girl I made my first arrangement being more than not experienced. In a matter of fact I would say with no experience at all as she told me that she doesn’t know what a “deep tissue” massage is when I asked for one. Treatment rooms have too much light and no noise isolation. I could hear from my room another person speaking on his phone while waiting for his treatment. Last but not least, another strange thing is that the changing rooms don’t have lockers. You need to put your stuff on a hanger which you return to the changing room reception and you get them back after your treatment. Very uncomfortable. I saw several people to try to put their handbags or shoes on this hanger and stuff was falling down as they were trying to give them to the reception.

That’s all. We decided to write a long report because in main lines Aldemar Olympian village is a great resort. Just the few small details we mention above are considerable and useful in order to avoid inconveniences. So watch out and have a nice stay.

“Great vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2010

we recently returned from Aldemar Olympian Village. We had a great time there, relaxed and really enjoyed ourselves. Our little one had the time of his life with all the pools, bikes and the great sea.

Everyone was very polite and full of patience... necessary when a great percentage of the clients are toddlers.
A big applause to the annimation team that offered great time during days and nights.

I would certainly choose it for future holidays
