We don't usually stay in smaller hotels, but decided to give this one a go based on the reivews.

We stayed at the Rhenia at the beginning of May and had a wonderful time. The room had a lovely view and the hotel staff / owners were wonderful and the food was incredible, I loved the breakfast.

It was too cold to swim in the pool which was disappointing because it looked so inviting.

It was very easy to get into town from the hotel as there's a rental car agency at the bottom of the hill. There is also a bus stop at the bottom of the hill but we never used it.

I would definitely go back to stay.

We have reluctantly just finished our 10 day stay at Rhenia Bungalows and we can't wait to go back! It's in a marvellous, elevated position, overlooking Tourlos Bay, where the new harbour is located. That means you get great views over the bay towards Mykonos Town, without the hassle of being in the centre.

As the last reviewer said, if you do see several big cruise ships in the harbour, town is definitely best avoided as it does get very crowded. In this event, there's a taverna called Matthew's just at the bottom of the hill, which is fine, reasonably priced and very convenient.

Getting to town is easy - there's a regular bus service from the bottom of the drive, you can walk (about 20-25 mins), or hire a scooter or car from the place nextdoor to Matthews. Our scooter cost €10 a day based on a week's stay and was great for getting to all the different beaches around the island. Our favorite was probably Platis Gialos where the €10 cost of 2 sunbeds and umbrella is knocked off your bill at the restaurant behind (other beaches in the south charge €12 just to hire them). The water is very clear for swimming, but the beach is quite narrow, so I imagine it could get a bit crowded in high season. For seclusion (and when the wind isn't too strong), we liked Panormos and Aghios Sostis in the north, both much less developed. For entertainment value of the people-watching kind, it's hard to beat Paradise beach, although for swimming there's a rocky ledge a few metres out to sea which you have to climb over to get to open water (watch out for black sea urchins on that ledge - if you step on one, it will ruin your holiday!). There's also a good self-service cafe there to help keep you on-budget. Dance music is pumped out all day, and things really get going in the early evening, so if you prefer a quieter time best avoid it.

Honestly, the best memory of this holiday will be the generosity and warmth of the management team of the hotel, Andreas, Alexandra and Georgie who can't do enough to make you feel welcome, plus there's Pretty the adorable, sweet-natured black and white spaniel, who quietly greets all the guests. Many people have been going for very many years and that speaks volumes.

If you want the hedonism and the cosmpolitan buzz that is Mykonos, but at arms length, then this is the place to stay!

The rooms are comfortable and have everything you need, and room 32 has a lovely balcony with great views of the town. The place is run by a charming family who go out of their way to make you feel at home and all the staff seemed genuinely pleased to see me return for my second visit.

Most of the guests seem to stay for just 3 or 4 days, and there is a diverse spread of nationalities.

Mykonos town is a 25 minute walk away, which is not advisable in the dark, but the taxi back (fixed rates) is just 4 Euro. Whilst a car would be an advantage, I managed without one for 3 weeks. There are ample places to eat, and all the prices seem comparable. La Casa on the main street behind the sea-front serves excellent food, and Blue Ginger just outside of town is a great Thai/Chinese restaurant with beautiful views over the port. As a single traveller I never felt uncomfotable, in fact was touched by the warmth and hospitality I encountered throughout the island.

One word of caution; if you see more than 3 cruise ships in the harbour, try and avoid the town as it can get very busy, although most of the passing tourists tend not to dine there.

Overall a great hotel in - for me - the perfect location.

Located at 2,5 kilometer from Mykonos City Center, the hotel is located in a quiet area with a nice view on the sea and the city.

To reach Mykonos, we use a bike which can easily be rent - there is a rental company at the corner of the street of the hotel.

Rooms are simple and comfortable with nice balcony and beautiful view on the sea.

Owners are very friendly, nice to talk with and helpfull for all what you want to know and need as a tourist.

Small, but enough big for us,swimming pool.

Breakfast are OK.

If we come back to Mykonos, we will back at this hotel!

Before I booked this hotel I read a large number of reviews, some good, some bad. I booked it through a website and the rates were reasonable and included breakfast.

We arrived at Mykonos Airport and took a taxi from there to Tourlos which took approx 10-15 minutes and cost 11 euros. The hotel owner took our cases and let us choose our own room as very early in the season and the hotel was very empty. We choose Room 30 on the hillside which was very pleasant.

The room consisted of a large main area with a double bed, nice linen and soaf and chairs. The balcony was very spacious and pleasant with canvass chairs and a table. The views looks across a seaport which could be noisy at times....even at night!

The bathroom was small but had a really good shower as per the reviews I read and there was hot water 24 hrs which was very pleasant. Both the room and towels were refreshed daily and the linen every three days.

The closet space was adequate. The tv reception was just awful and only CNN and BBC World for English speakers. There were no tea/coffee facilities which was a terrible shame as it would have cost so little and would have added a lot of enjoyment to the stay of two weeks. There was a small fridge which came in handy and the room already sported a mosquito plug and the maid left tablets daily for its operation...nice touch! Air-conditioning is good and included in the cost of the room.

The pool is SMALL and not very usable.....you will not do even a quarter of a length here! Annoyingly, the owners tended to congregate with their friends at the entrance to the hotel almost spraying the coming and goings of guests like Tomcats, which was incredibly unprofessional and offputting.

Breakfast was served (8-10.30am) in a very pleasant and light room near the pool/reception and was one of the best things about staying at this hotel. Menu never changed.

The LOCATION of the hotel is just awful. It is located in Tourlos which is not a town but an empty port....no shops, a dirty looking restaurant, a car hire agent and a main road which is very dangerous as it has no paths and serves large trucks and buses. The hotel is up a very steep hill off the main road and is unsuitable for those who do not attend a gym regularly.

Buses too and from the hotel to Mykonos town are irregular, frequently don't turn up and have rude drivers. Taxi's are 5 euros to town. We hired a car as it would not have been possible to stay here without one!!!! With one, the location become almost irrelevant but we dearly missed being able to nip out or have a drink with dinner :( WARNING - Do not attempt to walk into Mykonos Town or Ag. Stefanos along the main / only road as it is VERY dangerous and I frequently witnessed people nearly being killed from doing so. It is also very badly lit at night!!!

Having been to Mykonos a number of times before I was aware of its 'cosmopolitan' nature and rather enjoyed this difference. People just seem to mix without question and its friendly.

HOWEVER, I am sad to say that I saw, heard and witnessed less than acceptable attitudes at this hotel to gay/lesbian men and women who were of the nicest disposition. One sincerely felt that they were not welcome at all in this establishment. This was my greatest disappointment with Rhenia Bungalows and I shall not return to this establishment to witness such intellectually barren behaviour again. It was most offputting and disingenuous.

Overall, the hotel standard was good, in an awful area and away from what you want to do in Greece.....be somewhere near a beach, shops, restaurants and a few places to walk around. If you want these ideals, steer clear of this otherwise nice hotel! Ornos is much better placed for these needs as it Plati Giaolos. Much better accommodation and surroundings can be found here and we found ourselves driving to these areas to do what we expected from a Greek holiday. Leave Tourlos to the large ships that frequent it as its only really suitable for them!
