“Fantastic holiday with only one or two slight gripes”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 October 2010

We stayed all inclusive with a 2 bedroomed suite, and for us it was the first time on a package for many years.
Good things: Fantastic staff, very friendly and helpful. Our room had a sea view which was great as we hadn't paid extra for it. We did have a problem with the first room but they moved us no problem. Beautiful setting, lovely gardens, easy to get to Rethymnon on the bus, which is a beautiful old town with lots to see. Evenings were spent either watching the entertainment (some of it wasn't our thing) or retiring to the bar for drinks and card games.
Not so good things: the food, whilst plentiful and reasonable quality for all inclusive (and the restaurant manager was really lovely), did get very samey after a while, although the kids loved it. We did try to go to local tavernas for a change of scene but sadly, they were all empty even in the height of the season; a local told us it had been like this ever since the all inclusive hotels started.
Our brochure (Olympic) said the hotel rooms all had satellite TV, which they did, but what they didn't tell us was that the only English channel was BBC world news! This wasn't a huge problem but was misleading from the brochure and we wanted our youngest to keep out of the sun during the afternoon and watching tv would have helped. There weren't a lot of activities for my 12 year old; again the brochure advertised all manner of activities, but really most of these were just external things which you could book through the front desk. Of those on site there was very little for older ones, eg the archery was for over 15's only which it didnt say in the brochure. The beach; under the underpass which was fine, and was very clean and sandy, the sea was crystal clear but the problem was the rocks and stones meant you couldnt walk into the sea and had to walk down the beach to the next hotel and try to blend in with their clients (tricky with an all inclusive wrist band on) so you could use their umbrellas (which were usually full). The brochure also promised water sports of which there were none. (we did go on a scuba diving trip which was fab). All in all I would recommend this lovely hotel in a beautiful setting with nice accommodation and staff, as long as you're not bothered about watching TV, going out in the evening or doing lots of watersports in the sea.

“A fine stay - as always”

This was the third all-inclusive stay at the hotel. We usually go there every second year. Every time we return, we meet the much of the same staff, whom are friendly, service minded, and seems to like working at the hotel. This time they had opened up the lower pool area and the adjacent pool bar for us, non "Royal" guests. Also new was the Chinese serving in the lower restaurant; good if you get bored with the buffe style at the main restaurant. The food is overall tasty though perhaps not as much variety you would have wanted in a perfect world. Drinks are also fine. We got a huge room in the "Royal" wing and it was tidy and comfortable. All in all a good stay again.

“We plan to be back soon”

We have just returned from a weeks 'all-inclusive' stay at the Rethymnon Mare Hotel. This was our first trip to this part of the world and first experience of staying anywhere on an 'all-inclusive' basis, which we all enjoyed for our own individual reasons. It meant, for instance, that my teenage son who is almost permanently 'on the scrounge' for food, was in paradise! We found the service throughout the hotel to be excellent and very professional, even down to being waved-off at our departure at 4am yesterday morning. Our accommodation was more than satisfactory, as were the on-site facilities. No-one missed the x-box at home because the beach was so handy for swimming, which could be more exciting some days than others due to the size of the waves! All the swimmers of the family loved the cool blue sea and the paddler enjoyed just that- paddling. The location is fine. We walked wherever we could as its the best way to explore an area and meet people otherwise we caught a local bus. It would be hard to say what we liked best or least about our stay because the whole experience was new to us. We are a family of four and each of us would like to return to Crete, and to this hotel, to explore further.

“LOVED IT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 August 2010

I had my incredible holiday on the last week of June and stayed in the hotel Rethymno Mare on Crete))) I've been to many countries and stayed in very many hotels but I can say that this one was really special and amazing in every way!!!
I had a room with fantastic sea-view and every morning when I woke up I could look at the warm and nice BLUUUUEEE sea where I swam some hours later))))))))))
I liked the food at the restaurant very much, and the most pleasant surprise was that there is a Chinese restaurant in the hotel. And I like the Chinese food very much - there it was also VERY goood)))
Meeting the stuff I found them to be very nice and friendly people who really know how to do their job))))
There are also two large swimming pools in the hotel and two pools for kind, so it is a good place where you can go with the whole family!! When I have my own children I will for certain bring them here)))))))))))))))
So I can say what RETHYMNO MARE hotel is really VERY good place to stay in on CRETE)))))))

I am just back from fabulous holidays, its the second time that i visit this hotel and i could say it was much better than the first time.
Big swimming pools, sea is quite and only 100-150m away.
Service was great, variety of food (dont miss the Chinese restaurant as it is included on the package), management did everything to have a great holidays. My kid really loved the kids animation with the mini disco & mini club....

For sure we will be back. Thank you all....
