We stayed at the Creta Star hotel in the second week of September. Travelling with my partner and mother and hotel provided a nice interconnecting room with fantastic view of the sea and mountains. Hotel is very clean and the rooms were serviced daily.
The staff are very friendly and helpful and the Animation Team were especially good fun. We enjoyed the daily activities. Joined in with yoga and aqua aerobics almost every day.
You could not fault the choice and quality of the food. The hotel has three restaurants - the main restaurant, a traditional Greek restaurant and also an Italian restaurant, which you do need to book for at reception. We did not get a chance to go to the Italian restaurant during our stay, but the main buffet restaurant and Greek restaurant did not disappoint. There is something for everyone, even those on a diet, although the desserts were plentiful and always delicious! In previous posts people have mentioned the fact that there was a problem with people's refusal to queue. Although the hotel cannot be blamed for the behaviour of their guests, this was irritating at times. Sometimes all you can do is give as good as you get!
There are plenty of sun loungers around the pool and in the garden. We used the ones by the pool most days and always managed to find somewhere to sunbathe, although the usual problem of people 'reserving' sunbeds with their towels persisted, in spite of the fact that the hotel specify on their noticeboard that this is not permitted.
The bar service was good, although there could have been a wider range of cocktails. We particularly enjoyed the frozen cocktails and the brandy Alexanders! The local wine and beer is good quality for an all inclusive resort. In the evening you could sit outside overlooking the garden or the pool - a beautiful place to sit and watch the sun set. The gardens are pretty, floral and immaculately kept.
During our stay we did not venture out of the hotel much, but did take the local bus to Rethymno one day. The bus is very cheap, but was absolutely jam packed! Rethymno was definitely worth it though. We walked up past the huge fortress and into the old town. There is a lovely harbour and plenty of restaurants both around the harbour and further on into town. Tickets can be purchased for the bus from the mini mart in the hotel. Be warned that the bus does not pick you up where it drops you off. We had to search around for the return bus stop and it has no signage!
One evening, we did have a problem with the electricity in our room, but reception were faultless in their assistance and had a maintenance man up to our room within minutes, who fixed the fault immediately.
Overall, we had a fantastic stay at the Creta Star and would not hesitate to recommend the hotel to friends and family. We will definitely be back!
