We stayed at this hotel in August 2005.
Pros:
- Beautiful view of the caldera
- Megalachori has a small town square which is incredibly quaint
- The pool was nice.
Cons:
- From our room, we couldn't actually see the view without opening the door (no window on that side.) Our "balcony" was actually the walkway between the rooms on the second floor. On our first day, we missed the sunset because the room door was closed.
- Beds were uncomfortable. We asked for a queen bed and got two singles.
- The manager was really unfriendly. The air conditioner actually leaked water onto our belongings, and he seemed annoyed that we were asking him to do something about it.
- We had one heck of a time finding the Megalachori town center. Hotel gave us a map but we still couldn't find it. On the first day we decided to walk to the nearby winery, which turned out to be a treacherous journey along a narrow road with no sidewalk.
Santorini is a very small island, with a scooter you can navigate it in one day. So you don't have to stay in Megalachori to visit the town, which is cute, though dominated by Vedema. We booked late in the busiest month, so our options were limited to which places had vacancies. Overall we would have liked better service and facilities for what we paid (and would have liked a more accurate description of the view), but it was overall OK.
