“Very nice for specific age groups”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 August 2010

We (me, my wife and child) stayed at Istron Bay for a weekend and we had a very nice family time, but, beware... this is a fantastic place to stay for a family with young children, senior people or/and even maybe just married couples, otherwise I suppose it would be rather boring!

Anyway, it worked just fine for us, so the pluses and minuses were:

+ Fantastic view
+ Spacious rooms with a veranda big enough to accomodate a round table with its
chairs plus 2 saiz-longs if you feel like sunbathing in the convenience of your own
room
+ Nice beach, literally private, since the location is such that you can access it only
through the hotel
+ Very friendly personnel

- It seems like nothing has changed the past 30-40 years for this hotel, it feels like living
in the '70s!
- Maybe the worst mattresses I have ever witnessed, it would totally impossible for
someone with a bad back to sleep even for an hour...
- The hotel boats used for water sports park extremely close to the swimming area and
fill the sea with an unbearable scent of gas every time they start and stop (which happens tens of times during the day)

“Very nice hotel at a great location”

We had a room with a superb view. The decoration of the room was a bit outdated, but this did not bother me. Breakfast and dinner at the hotel was excellent. Employees were very polite and helpful.
The beach of the hotel is very nice and quiet.

“tired hotel in need of major refit”

We stayed in a standard room and this was located in a block off to the side of the main hotel. It was some way from the restaurant and was near the hotel sewage processing plant and at times the smell was just awful. The food was OK but nothing special, the whole place was in need of a refit and parts of the walls and balustrades were cracking open and falling down. The beach bar never opened and the beach Meltemi taverna charged top rate for anything - 6Euro for two ice creams or 2.20 for a small coke. The staff were fine and very helpful. The beach was OK but a huge part of the best sandy area was given over to a volley ball court that was used just once a day at 5pm (and not every day) this meant that there was not enough sunbeds or space for all guests that wanted to sit on the beach. You are trapped here as there is nothing within walking distance so you will need a car. Not a place for those with poor walking abilities. Had a good holiday but it could have been so much better if this hotel was not so tatty and underdeveloped.

Spent 6 lovely days at the Istron Bay hotel where the staff were absolutely first class considering it was the end of a long season for them. The food was not exceptional quality but the choice was varied and plentiful. The beach was a delight, plenty of sunbeds and good for swimming. The pool was well situated and clean. We had a junior suite which was quite large and exceptional clean but didnt have a great view from the patio .Overall quite satisfied

“Hotel in a time warp”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 4 October 2008

We stayed at the Istron Bay Hotel 10 years ago. It has an idyllc location, which is why we went again in September 2008. Nothing has changed, The hotel is living in a time warp. We had a superior room - superior to what? The hotel is in need of an imaginative refurbishment, to catch up with fast improving standards elsewhere. The staff are generally willing and helpful, but need better management. The food was uninspired, the same breakfast for two weeks. The Meltime restaurant gives the impression of being something unique; it is not - the food is the same as in the main restaurant: same buffet and sweets every night. From the bottom of the lift to the beach there are 72 steps and a walk along a ramped pathway, effectively excluding anyone with walking difficulties. Don't go to the welcome cocktails to hear an interminable, mumbling speech on how good the so-called Guest Relations Manager thinks her hotel is (we subsequently tried to contact her on 4 occasions without success).

  • Liked — location
  • Disliked — pretension - it's not as good as it pretends it is
