“Ideal for a short break, fab setting, beach recliners are for free!”

We went to the Istron Bay the last week of August 2011. We'd had a really hard summer renovating our house and needed a break. This was perfect! Unusually for us we went on a package with Thomas Cook (I think) and it was ideal. We were given a taxi from the airport to the hotel as so few travellers were going there. Our room was reasonable size with a lovely curved roof and a balcony over looking the bay. The hotel is set in its own grounds and owns the whole bay so you can walk, swim and lie anywhere. The pool is lovely - fresh water about 18m long oblong so great for lengths. The beach has lots of recliners and as its owned by the hotel so no extra charges! The food was average. We were all inclusive which was fine. There was lots of fresh fruit but the cooked food lacked crunch - most of it was soft but reasonably tasty. I wouldn't be put off by it, it just could have been better. We took the bus into Aghios Nicolas one day which was nice and the bus stop is right outside the hotel. Overall a lovely place for a summer break - I'd recommend it. P.S. It does need a refurb as there's lots of brown fabric but if you know that before you go you're ready for it ...

“A beautiful view from every room”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

We loved this place. We are a family of three and shared a superior room. There was plenty of space for us all. We had never done the hotel / pool / beach type holiday before and staying at the Istron Bay Hotel has us keen to do it again. The view from our balcony - which had about the same surface area as the room - was breathtaking, you could sit and stare out to sea for hours.
The food was great too. We are vegetarians and were completely spoilt for choice.
We joined in with the Greek language lessons and the Greek dancing lessons which were taught by a delightful local girl and each morning were given a Greek test by the lady who cleaned the room.
This is not a place for those that want abject luxury. It is very clean but maybe a bit tired looking in places. However, these cons are completely trumped by friendlyness, the food and the beautiful bay the hotel is located in.
Would we choose the Istron Bay Hotel again? You bet.

Room Tip: The Superior rooms are perfect for a Family of 3

“Fantastic location - stunning views - a haven of tranquility”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 September 2011

we have just returned from a week at this hotel which has a fantastic location. It over looks its own private bay that is quite simply stunning. Our room (302) was ideally placed with a large sundeck with our own loungers, parasol and 2 chairs and tables. We stayed on a B&B basis and the breakfasts were excellent. A nice touch was the plate of fruit and bottle of wine in our room when we arrived. The main downside to this hotel are the high bar prices. However there was a little shop on site where you could stock up with water for only a small mark up on the local supermarkets. The cleaning staff were lovely but the other staff largely indifferent. We walked every night into istorn where we ate at the Panorama restaurant. Georges the owner is most hospitable, the menu is extensive and excellent and Geogers always provided with you with as much free raki as you could drink and stagger back up the hill to the hotel. We only stayed a week but for lonegr you would need a car to explore.Don't bother with the Thompson trip to Knossus - good guide but other wise poor value for money

“Oh Dear!”

If you want a trip back in time, at considerable cost, this is the place for you! Clean spacious (upgraded) room, good maid service, beach towels, bath robes etc. Disinterested reception staff; all queries, complaints met with 'This is Greece.....', even when asking for help with carrying cases up several flights of stairs during a power cut. Outrageous charging for basics; water 2 euro 90 per litre when it is 1 euro 40 for 6 bottles if you can struggle with it for 15 min walk from nearest shop. You cannot even drink half your 18 Euro bottle of wine with dinner and bring the other half into the dining room the next night! Consequently one family bought no water there and our neighbours bought no wine. They even charge 5 euro to connect to the internet each time!! In a 5 star hotel, in Europe!! There are however, people who return every year. Perhaps the attempt at formal 'posh' dining appeals to some, rather like the Colonel in Fawlty Towers. The location is ok; pretty enough bay, very narrow overcrowded beach where towel reservation of sun-beds is the norm, as it is at the freezing, oblong swimming pool. Be prepared for windy weather too, even the restaurant is called The Meltemi, which is the local wind! Not the best marketing for the food on offer, but accurate I'm afraid. Have been to many better, cheaper, more fun places in Greece and elsewhere.

I stayed here for 2 weeks with my wife & 2 kids for the first 2 weeks of July 2011 and I have to say it made our holiday. Beautiful private cove with lovely water to swim in, fab restaurant overlooking the beach and a diving centre on site at the beach. Great food, great service & a view from the upstairs restaurant that is simply amazing. A must place to stay !!
