During our holidays we visited Athens and several islands in Greece (Mykonos, Paros, Santorini, Crete) staying at hotels with the same star rating, excellent reviews and very similar night rates. However no hotel compared to the Psarou Garden Hotel. After being picked up from the port and arriving to the hotel, all staff was excellent with no exceptions. They were really welcoming, greeting us with not just a good chat and a smile but also by providing us with some cherry sweet and a free drink until our room was ready. During the three days we stayed there (we extended it one more day), they were very helpful all the time, lending us beach towels, and iron and iron board and by always leaving two 1.5 litre mineral water bottles in our fridge to make the heat more bearable! These are only some examples of the great atmosphere and helpful staff. And they all speak excellent English which is very handy when trying to find out what there is to do in Mykonos or even in our the islands included in our holiday!
In terms of the actually hotel, it could not be any better. Beautiful rooms: incredibly spacious, extremely clean, great balconies with furniture to enjoy it (as some other hotels we found came with a balcony but no chairs or tables!) and good views as the beach is just a few steps away, some rooms have a table with a daybed or sofa to cool down after a day on the beach, all toiletries you could need are provided (from shampoo to sewing kits), air-conditioning and TV, etc. They set such a high standard that none of the other hotels we stayed at could meet our expectations after that. The hotel also had a very authentic and beach-style bar and some open areas under the apartments with hammocks to lie on and a beautiful garden. Nice food at the bar served until late hours!
One of the best and cleanest beaches in Mykonos (according to our guide) and with crystal-clear waters is just a few (literally) steps away. When leaving the hotel, just head down under a beautiful bridge of pink flowers and romantically ambience at night with candle lights everywhere and you are on the beach. The beach offers something for everybody’s pockets: from those “celebrity”-style sections on the beach with sun beds with pillows and champagne bottle coolers, beautiful people dancing everywhere and very unique bars on the beach and more “down-to earth” bars on the left section. Music is played constantly which makes laying on the beach more enjoyable and the food is brought to you from the bar for the same prices than what you would find somewhere else in town. Often expensive but that is Mykonos.
The only bad side is that you need to go through the beach or uphill when getting the bus if walking, but it is a nice view. It is only a few minutes away from the bus stop and it takes around 15 minutes to get into town by bus. If this is too much for you, a taxi is always an option and it is definitely worth it for such a great hotel and beach. All people I met in Mykonos agreed that their hotels in Mykonos centre were not as good as ours and way more expensive. I would definitely prefer having a nice hotel where you can cool down, a beautiful beach a few steps away and some of the most famous party ones just minutes away. Going to town costs 3.20 return so it is worthy to travel there in the morning and spend the day there, coming back to your hotel at night and going to the beach at night with candles everywhere. Very romantic!
I hope we have made justice to such as great hotel, but this description of our experience is nothing compared to how good it was. Please do not think twice when looking for a hotel in Mykonos! You will not be disappointed. Once of the guests we met at the bar said that this hotel was “like paradise”. :) !
