I've prepare a very nice surprise birthday weekend to both my parents by offering them a weekend in Geres in this lovely Pousada. They didn't know my brother and I were coming to stay with them too, so it was quite an event. I was very fortunate to count with the massive help of S. Bento's staff! Specially, Mr Luis. They were extremely helpful with a ton of requests I had made to make this surprise A surprise! Everybody as really nice and definitely played their part in making this day a really special one for my parents, who were extremely pleased.
Besides this part, the hotel itself is absolutely gorgeous, sooo cozy, warm and beautifully located! I had an absolutely amazing view of the valley from my bedroom window (see pic attached). The bedrooms have like antique furniture with wooden floors - so cozy! The beds were extremely comfortable and fluffy as well - slept for hours! In terms of cleanliness, it was spotless. Food was very nice as well.
Lastly, the swimming pool area was also quite relaxing.
Totally recommend this Pousada as well as visiting the Serra do Gerês, beautiful scenaries!

we have just spent 4 days at this pousada. we have stayed in Pousadas before and Paradors but this is the first 'nature' one and it was excellent.
the other more negative reviewers had missed the point I think. This building is simple and rustic - it is in a fantastic location - we spent many hours just sitting on the terrace watching the view, the changing patterns on the lake and clouds forming and disappearing in blue skies. We came for a relaxing break and that is what we experienced.

the staff were around when we needed them but not in our face. they were lovely and not pretentious like we have experienced at some of the grander Pousadas. Breakfast was four types of rolls/bread, four cheeses, five meats, fresh strawberries, melon, peaches, grapes, two local cakes, cooked bacon/scrambled eggs/ sausages, croissants, yoghurts, pro biotic drinks, chilled chocolate milk, four fruit juices, coffee and many tea infusions plus a bottle of chilled Cava (which I had every morning on the terrace). so how anyone could complain about breakfast I don't know !

We had a great deal with the Pousada group on this and our room had a view of the valley. It was a simple room, great bed, lovely white cotton sheets, small flat screened TV, mini bar, air conditioning and a small but clean bathroom. Everything everywhere was very clean. But the place is RUSTIC, so if you don't do simple and rustic don't go.

the following rooms all had either small patios, balconies or a view: 205 t0 211, 216, 301 to 307 and 106 to 111. I guess the others didn't .

The pool looked great and was popular mid afternoon but we didn't use it. Neither did we use the restaurant for dinner as I don't eat meals in the evening. The prices looked typical Pousada prices, not low especially when you factor in the GB pound to Euro rate these days. but we did find very cheap food and wine in local places for lunch so they do exist in the area if you are willing to search.

we loved the ambience and for a relaxing short break it is wonderful and we will go again.

After booking ahead we were annoyed to get a small room with a crap view of the carpark and was told it is ok because it is close to the bar, so on that note decided a drink would be nice to top off a day of driving, no service in the bar. Tried to chill out around the pool, no lounges left, no problems but having to squeeze in to gap between everyone else on some wooden decking was not my idea of relaxing. I would hate to see this place in peak season. We were looking for somewhere to chill out for a few nights on a driving trip around Portugal, and all I can say is apart from the view, breakfast and the cool decor I was really dissapointed. We ended up going down into the town which was a bit tourist trash. All in all booked 2 nights and left after one night. 200 euro a night I just cant fathom, I don't mind paying for quality, but quality this is not. Try another Pousada, don't bother with this one, stop for some photos and a drink if you can find someone to serve you, but then keep on driving.

We stayed at this Pousada for a our honeymoon. It's a small quiet hotel set on a mountain top with spectacular views of Geres.

The staff were fab. The hotel is Colonial style with a lovely private pool.
