“Good location and excellent service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

We had requested a quiet apartment over New Year and this request was accommodated due in part to low occupancy.
On arrival the room was not cleaned but this was quickly and efficiently sorted and we were offered a bottle of wine for the delay.
The apartments are well equipped with good views over the golf course. There are good running tracks around the golf estate and easy to spot local wildlife like rabbits.
A well equipped fitness centre in the main building.
The only reason the resort does not rate excellent for me is:
1. In winter only the indoor pool is open and this is supposed to be adults only from 18:00 to 20:00 every night, unfortunately throughout our stay this was not enforced and the small pool (probably 10m by 1.5m) was a din of children shrieking and not conducive for adult swimming.
2. On departure we were charged EUR3 for two bottles of small water left in the room fridge. While the charge is nominal, it left a bitter taste at the end of an otherwise excellent stay. There is no information provided in the apartments on services or any explanatory note to say that the gifts that were topped up every day were chargeable.
Staff friendly, helpful and efficient throughout, particularly in the breakfast restaurant Manjepao, happy to provide espressos on tap as the coffee from the jugs is not the best.

“Bliss”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 December 2011

I travel quite often and I must say that this is a great place with great value for money. Over the Christmas period it was a pure bliss, very few guests, excellent customer service, superb accomodation for 4 people in 2 joints apartments.
The staff at the reception is top notch, the breakfast and dinner was awesome. Very handy to main beaches a few kms away like Santa Cruz. Strongly recommended.

“Great staff and a great golfing base”

A hotel out of season can be a bit like turning up to a party a week late. The venue is just the same but all the buzz and excitement has gone.

So rolling up to the Campo Real hotel in the last week in November I was not expecting such a warm welcome from friendly and helpful staff who cannot do more to make you stay enjoyable.

The bedroom I had was a fine big room with lots of wardrobe space and a good deep bath with decent toiletries. I was a bit disappointed the mini bar was empty save for a bottle of water as I would have enjoyed sitting on my verandah and having a beer after a flight from London and 40 minute drive up from Lisbon but I had to go downstairs to the Library bar.

Fortunately the delightful Jodie from Pembrokeshire was only to ready to serve me whatever I wanted to drink and help me if I wanted to know about any of the local specialities on the drinks menu. Here is a lady who is simply great at her job. Her colleague, Flavio, a young law student working to pay for his degree, is also charming and extremely helpful.

We ate in the hotel and had a first rate set meal washed down with some delicious local wines and put to bed with coffees and aguardente which is Portuguese for 'firewater'. It certainly is not for the faint hearted nor the abstemious.

After an excellent night's sleep I enjoyed a hearty breakfast of fresh fruits, freshly squeezed orange juice, scrambled eggs and bacon. Now here is the bad bit. The hotel has one of those maddening DIY toasters which I absolutely hate. By the time my toast was ready on the damn thing I had eaten my breakfast, not counting the three times I got up to see the snail's pace progress this idiot piece of kit was making.

I dread to think what would have happened had the restaurant been busy. Toast wars? I was alone in there at 7.30. So please, Campo Real chuck this hopeless machine away and serve fresh toast from the kitchen and I will happily award you five stars the next time I come to stay.

Room Tip: Try and get a room overlooking the golf course. Sadly I arrived too late to play it but it looks in...

“Fantastic resort apartment. Can't ask for better.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2011

This was an awesome place to stay in Portugal. The grounds are very well maintained, and check-in was great.
The apartment we got was sublime for living in. It was very clean, with comfortable furniture, and great showers. The Heavenly Beds, which Westin left behind when they left this resort, were very interesting for me. The mattress was hard, but the bedding was soft and comfortable. They went together like peanut butter and jelly, or yin-yang. I liked sleeping in it.
The food was delicious. The buffet for breakfast was very plentiful, and I loved the custard-filled pastries they had there. I never ate at the main restaurant, but it wasn't stuff we liked. The thing I MUST mention is Room Service, which we used twice because we liked it. It was fantastic. They served one of the best pizzas I have ever eaten. The cheese on it was tasty. They had great pasta and omelettes on the menu too. My favorite was the homemade hamburger. If you put Portuguese bacon on it, it is divine. Dessert was a variation of a creme brulee, which was good, and Portuguese custard pies, which were better. I strongly recommend you stay in your room and order in. It's a better menu.
This is a great resort. I enjoyed it. The main problem, of course, is you will need a rental car, because of the distance from Lisbon, but I recommend this place highly.

Room Tip: Get an apartment room. It's worth the money.

“Regular... not amazing”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2011

I was on a 1 bedroom apartment for 2 nights.

To access floor 0, it's needed to make 20 steps up. A curtain is needed or a door on the bath to avoid the water to go out. The poor construction details are not acceptable for the resort type. The floor is too poor for a 5 star Hotel. TV has 42 channels. Most of them not avaliable, and not well distributed the ones that are avaliable. With a complex comm system, I think it's not acceptable to have only paid internet on the apartments. The apartment smelled like it has been closed for a long time. Included in the price, we got the pool and gym. Every other small things from the SPA are paid (18€ per day).

The staff at the restaurant seem not to be happy every time we went to the breakfast. Always missing that smile we are used to see. Also it's missing the service details, as getting the places out of a table. If we are 2 people and the table is setup to 4, 2 places should be removed imediatly even before serving coffee.

There's a pool near the Apartments that appears to be abandoned. No beds, no chairs, nothing. Only the Hotel pool is well furnished.

The room is quite big and the living room as well. The views are quite nice.

Room Tip: Between a room @ the Hotel and the Apartment, definitely best value is the Apartment.
