The food is, as earlier reviews say , truly awful. Probably worse during my visit as there was so few guests it was waiter service for dinner initially. Then a limited buffet. I had already decided to have a good lunch out then have soup and / or a salad in the evening but the first two nights sent me out on the following evenings until the buffet started. The breakfast is adequate/good for the price. Repetitive yes but between cereals, fruit (tinned tho' a good fresh fruit salad one morning), english (scrambled eggs, bacon, frankfurters, hash browns, beans and boiled eggs), continental (3 types wurst/ham, cheese, cheese spread, ) a choice of breads, mini croissants, pastries and decent preserves there is a reasonable spread.
The reception staff were all excellent. Just one example; one of the overnight young men spent almost an hour with me as I tried, unsuccessfully, to download the newspaper onto my Xmas present kindle (no free Wifi but ) before breakfast. About an hour later as I passed through reception on my way out the manager stopped me to tell me of a cafe in the village with free Wifi.
In the dining room only one of the waiting staff Valthur cleared breakfast dishes when no longer needed. He is also a fund of local info.
I would not recommend this hotel for anyone with walking difficulties as the architect has littered the open plan ground floor with umpteen sets of 2/3 steps between the separate areas. Ditto outside. The gardens are pleasant and worth exploring as there are other smaller sunbathing areas.
The beach at Carvoeiro village is as attractive as the photographs suggest. Many of the cafes, shops and restaurants were closed as it's been a very poor season. There was still plenty open during the day. There is an excellent home baked bakery / cakeshop up the furthest of the two roads up from the beach. It has indoor and outdoor seating for coffee and cakes.
To sum up; I would not return to this hotel but only because of the many steps. If I could throw away my walking stick I would go back but only B&B.
