“Fabulous & friendly”

This was my 1st time as a solo traveller, so was a bit wary. But having met the the family that the run the apartments & the friendly repeat customers I had a great time. The rooms are basic but comfortable, cleaned every single day, I had a room by the lower pool, very nice cool rooms, a little dark, but when the surroundings are so beautiful you dont spend too long indoors. The food from the restaurant is very good value for money, ice cold beer always with a friendly smile. The cove just down the hill is very small but beautiful, with a lovely little chapel and a taverna, so you can spend all afternoon gazing over the cove enjoying a beer.
It was a very relaxing holiday, exactly what I needed. Hope to back next year

Room Tip: Car hire is a must for fabulous trips to the other side of the island, Crete is a beautiful island.

“I loved this hotel.”

What can I say; this place is fantastic, the rooms are very modern and clean. Two lovely swimming pools with ample beds, a great raised restaurant with outside decking and tasty Cretan food at great prices together with stunning views over the bay, with a bar with ice cold beer open from early morning until the last person goes at night. A family run place with family values. Camari Gardens is not for the party crowd; it is off the beaten track around eight miles from Rethmenyo, a local bus runs back and forth three times a day and the Chania / Reth bus every hour. There is a small cove at the bottom of the hill which is part sandy, part rocky but the water is crystal clear and warm. If you walk up the hill about 10mins you come to the little Cretan village of Gerani, this is not the same Gerani as shown on the coast; this is very much a local’s place, a few great Tavernas and a bakery that bakes the best chocolate croissants I have ever tasted. If you want a relaxing holiday with great hospitality with a bit of real Crete thrown in, try this place, it should be at least 4 stars or more. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a relaxing holiday, the only drawback is the ten Euro taxi fare each way if you want to eat out in the old town or harbour at night, but most people seemed content to eat at the hotel or walk to the local Tavernas and explore the town by day by the local bus as it stops right outside the door.

“September 11 review”

We have just come back having spent 2 weeks at the Camari apartments. Clean, spacious and basic apartments. Our kettle broke after 1 day’s use and apparently nearly all the kettles were faulty (we did not get a replacement). The beds and bathroom were adequate and clean. The food at the restaurant was good and not too badly priced. Nice cold beers with glasses from the freezer. You really do need a car as we travelled with a toddler and didn’t fancy the public transport. There is a spit of beach nearby but we didn’t go there as it looked rubbish! The beaches along Rethimnon were wide and the sea was a bit rough (in keeping with the Atlantic), we travelled each day down to the south coast where there were nice coves and bays to snorkel and swim. Rethimnon town was a bit grubby, along the fishing harbour there were plenty of restaurants who hassle you for your trade but in the back streets it was not so bad. Camari apartments have a play area of toddlers but it’s not very good and the items in their picture are a bit old and tired – but functional. We went to Kourna Lake which I recommend, it’s nice and tranquil and you could spend a few hours there. I’d recommend it (although I sound negative), but it is not a place for people who can’t manage stairs and you have several (up to about 20) just to get into the complex. It is quiet with no passing traffic or people shouting. Not recommended (in my opinion) for teenagers, but recommended for families, couples old and young (as long as you are in good health). The supermarket near the complex was under supplied but that could be because it was near the end of the season. We had a nice room from the 3rd floor with a sea view, one small round table and 2 chairs for the 3 of us!

Room Tip: Book a car. Take a travel kettle.

Lovely apartments and lovely location. Away from the crowds you can really experience true cretian hospitality. Its 5 minutes walk to a lovely sheltered cove for swiming and sun bathing and make sure you sample the hospitality and food from the taverna next to the beach, its run by a local called Marco who is happy to sit and chat with you and watch the sunset . Its right on the main bus routes so its very easy to visit local towns and other beaches.
The apartments are run by a family and they are very friendly and helpful. Couldn't ask for more.. perfect place !

“Amazing value for money!!”

Clean, spacious, friendly but remote so car hire is a must! We drove to Chania, Lake Kournas, Rethymnon. You must walk into Gerani village and have a gyros - cheap and delicious. The locals were all very friendly and welcoming, everybody smiles and says hello.

Would highly recommend Camari Gardens and will be returning......
