I enjoyed my stay in Tahiti, but was expecting more from Sofitel. The website introduces the hotel as a little more luxurious than it actually is.
The room was a good size, but again, for the price I would have thought it would be bigger. The beach area was very nice and relaxing, but small. Some very pleasant snorkeling areas not too far out.
The pool and bar area was very inviting, and an excellent Happy Hour is offered from 17h30 to 18h30, which is great. Plenty of live music and entertainment which I appreciated.
However, one night there was a private event hosted at the hotel, and it was the liveliest party I had heard during my whole stay. I was disappointed to learn that it was actually the staff party night - it seemed so much more fun and lively than what was on offer for the clients on a regular basis. I thought this was unfair for the clients - the party was very loud, there was an inviting atmosphere about it, live music, dancing, and we weren't allowed to be part of it. It was also held a Saturday night. Perhaps they could have allowed clients to join in on the fun too..
The downstairs restaurant is very expensive, but so is everything in Tahiti no matter where you go. It served an interesting menu, and the portions were plentiful. Some very good wines are on offer too.
All in all, I enjoyed my stay and there was nothing particularly unpleasant about the hotel. I was just expecting it to be a bit more up-market and luxurious for the price and the Sofitel name. I would recommend it but I would just warn people not to expect too much from it.
