“Pleasant but I expected a bit more”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

I enjoyed my stay in Tahiti, but was expecting more from Sofitel. The website introduces the hotel as a little more luxurious than it actually is.

The room was a good size, but again, for the price I would have thought it would be bigger. The beach area was very nice and relaxing, but small. Some very pleasant snorkeling areas not too far out.

The pool and bar area was very inviting, and an excellent Happy Hour is offered from 17h30 to 18h30, which is great. Plenty of live music and entertainment which I appreciated.

However, one night there was a private event hosted at the hotel, and it was the liveliest party I had heard during my whole stay. I was disappointed to learn that it was actually the staff party night - it seemed so much more fun and lively than what was on offer for the clients on a regular basis. I thought this was unfair for the clients - the party was very loud, there was an inviting atmosphere about it, live music, dancing, and we weren't allowed to be part of it. It was also held a Saturday night. Perhaps they could have allowed clients to join in on the fun too..

The downstairs restaurant is very expensive, but so is everything in Tahiti no matter where you go. It served an interesting menu, and the portions were plentiful. Some very good wines are on offer too.

All in all, I enjoyed my stay and there was nothing particularly unpleasant about the hotel. I was just expecting it to be a bit more up-market and luxurious for the price and the Sofitel name. I would recommend it but I would just warn people not to expect too much from it.

“Convenient”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2012

Parts of the hotel made me think it was fantastic and other parts disappointed me. The rooms were a bit small and the menu at the downstairs restaurant (there is a teppanyaki restaurant upstairs) didn't offer many options and none were vegetarian either. That being said, the staff were lovely. When we arrived late at night, the bar staff made us a small meal despite the kitchen being closed. The reception staff were also very helpful.

Excellent service, nice hotel loved the beach and the lounge area. Break fast buffet is really good. We just checked out today to go to moorea Sofitel and I read some negative reviews so I decided to post sooner than later. It's located at very nice place. Things could be expensive but it's not only Sofitel. It's everywhere in Tahiti. I also loved their happy hour offering. Can't go wrong with that. Overall we loved staying at Sofitel Tahiti and we would certainly come back. Soon will post for Sofitel moorea!!

“Old, expensive, disgusting, not a sofitel, not even a 1 star.”

We stayed here beacuse it is apparently a 5 stars close to the airport, to get to bora bora, I regret that night, even for the 5 hours I was there.
The rooms are old, smell like humidity, old matress which make them like rock. No pillows or very bad.
No food after 10 pm, no room service, no personnel, staff is very rude.

Hope you get the point, don't stay here. Even if the location is very good, close to the airport, but taxis still charge around 25 usd to get here (5 mins ride).

Pool is very nice though, lol. Joke's on me.

Sir / Madam,

Thank you for taking the time to send us your comment about your experience at Sofitel Tahiti. I understand you did not appreciate your 5 hours overnight stay with us, and I am sorry.
Maybe there was a misunderstanding because we have a specific food service after 10pm for passengers arriving late, it seems you did not request it. I hope your holidays in Polynesia was good and hope to see you again soon.
Regards

“Nice hotel!”

We only stayed here for one night on transit the next morning but we enjoyed our stay! The room we had was nice, clean and comfortable, including the bathroom. Staff was helpful (somehow the computer system had problem with my A-club card and they helped me sort it out.) The hotel ground seemed pretty well maintained even though we could tell the hotel was not the newest. We dined at the hotel restaurant. The food was ok but the wine list was not bad! The sommelier came to greet us. Very friendly and knowledgeable. We ended up picking the wine tasting and he spent the time to explain the different wines to us and let us taste a couple other ones for comparison.

Overall, we are happy with our stay here.
