At my first arrival I was a little bit disappointed because the hotel is very modern and lacks the exotism you might be searching for when you travel to a far east country, but then I discovered that this is a very nice and comfortable place to stay. We were granted a ground floor room with direct access to the pool with a small private area outside. The room is huge as well as the bathroom. and the staff is simply the nicest we met, especially Dhamita who is always there to help in any request you have, the housekeeping staff who brings you extra towels in no time, they also arrange the towels every day in the form of an elephant and this was sooo charming! the breakfast buffet was very tasty with a huge variety of food and excellent choice of bread. The dinner buffet was ok. We didn't try the other restaurants as we were on half board bases and were only allowed to the buffet.
Every morning i used to drink my coffee in front of the room and the pool attendant used to come to me with a big smile to bring me deack chair, mattress and towel, and he used to do the same when we go down to the beach. The pool is huge and very well designed but has no depth at all. Anyways i didn't care that much because I prefer the sea, and it was simply amazing. A long stretch of golden sand with magnificent view to a small island and the end of the river that falls down there. The sea temperature was perfect and swimming in it was amazing as there was almost no waves. Few meters away facing the island you can have excellent beer and fresh fruit juice at the Maharaja cafe while being entertained by the very nice owner Ananda. One night it was my friend's birthday and he and his friend Patte brought us a cake and flowers to celebrate in such a friendly and kind way. If you want to take a tour from there, I can't but recommend that you take Patte as a guide, he knows a lot about the country and his explanations were much more accurate and detailed than the ones we had from other guides at other places. Besides he is very honest and straight forward and friendly. He took us in his nice red TukTuk to have a tour of shopping in the city and we had excellent prices compared to what we paid in other places. Believe me, tour Srilanka with him and you won't regret it. His e-mail is patte01lk@yahoo.com.
Room Tip: rooms at the ground floor with direct access to the pool are much nicer that being on the first or 2...
