Pench Jungle Camp is exactly that, A camp built in lush green grounds 5 minutes drive from the park entrance and Jungle. I stayed in a Safari tent in order to get a real feel for the safari ahead and was pleasantly surprised to find large tented rooms with all the mod-cons. The staff are great and seem happy to help at all hours what ever your question or need.
Meals were excellent and my only disappointment was that I couldn't fit more in but with three meals a day two of which being three courses you will never go hungry.
If you are on a morning safari starting around 5:30am they will provide you with a pack lunch which your guide will take in the 4x4 for you. All the jungle camp guides are passionate wild-lifers, so if like me finding out as much as you can about who lives in Pench is a must you will not be left wanting.
If I was to say anything negative about Pench jungle camp it would be that the electricity is a little bit hap hazard but then that is the case all over India and it is a real shame you cannot stay in the park itself, but again this not the camps fault it's a law put in place by the Indian forestry commission to protect the national parks of India. ( which I am all for )
Other facilities include a swimming pool for those hot sticky days and a spa centre with India style massage treatments which you may find very welcome at the end of a bumpy day in the 4x4,s.
Out back is a pond where I found a few birds to watch not least of the White breasted Kingfisher who is very active and a joy to watch at work. You will have an abundance of butterflies and birds in the gardens and grounds of the camp plus if you keep a close eye out you may see one of the three stripped squirrels that ply the bamboo hedge rows.
With regards to why I went, I have wanted to Tigers in the wild since reading the Jungle book as a small boy and I was advise Pench would be a good place to see them, It did not disappoint. But please do not think that is all Pench has to offer, with some 300 bird species, thousands of Spotted & Samba deer, wild dogs, Jackal, Peacock, Languor Monkeys, Macaque Monkeys, Antelope and the largest wild cattle of them all the Gaur means you have plenty to photograph and watch.
If you decide to come please try and do at least 4 days as the Tigers are quite elusive which make sit all the better when you do find one but give the park this amount of time and I would be surprised if you don't see at least one if not more.
