Stayed in the Dalecarlia for 2 nights in July 2007.
The hotel is in a simply stunning location up on a gentle slope overlooking Lake Siljan. The views from the hotel across the lake are amazing, and if you are there in the summer the sun almost doesn't set at night.
The hotel is very well presented, clean and tidy. Reception was efficient, generally manned by helpful staff. Some parts of the hotel have a traditional feel, such as the bar and lounge area upstairs, while other areas such as reception feel more modern. I'd say the balance is about right!
I was travelling with a friend and shared a twin room, which was clean if a little compact. My only gripe with the hotel is that we were never offered a room with a view of the lake, even during the booking process. Perhaps they were already all booked out... ho hum.
One of the highlights of the Dalecarlia is the restaurant. Dinner was most enjoyable both nights, although (again a minor gripe) they didn't change the menu for the second night we were there. The food is well cooked and up to the standard of a good restaurant, and there are good wines and cheeses on offer. Be warned though - this doesn't come cheap, and there seem to be few other options for dining out in the area (apart from other similar spa-type hotels).
Overall I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing break in beautiful surroundings.
