“90% German guests, extremly isolated, very expensive.”

OMG!!!- where do I start?? We have been to Ibiza twice before (family hols in San Antonio Bay) and had a fab time, excperiencing the whole Island especially the hussle & bustle in San antonio. So when we found this holiday in San Antionio itself (not San antonio bay) we were very pleased, thinking it would be nearer the centre. We have just rtn'd from a 2 wk stay & this hotel is no where near San Antonio and can only be accessed by a bus ride into town which runs every hour except 1-4 (siesta) & then finishes at 8pm which means if you want t o experience Cafe mambo or the west end at its best (night time) you need a taxi to get back costing approx 8 euros every time. The hotel initially put us in an appt so high up the hill you needed oxygen but moved us to a more reasonable location when we complained. The hotel is geared towards the Germans guests (90%) & british guests are definately in the minority. Never, have I been anywhere where so little english is spoken & everything (entertainment, food, literature & services available) is in German ie; the childrens club was full & had only german speaking chidren attending so useless for english speaking children. There was no money exchange service available, the doctor was so old I'm suprised he could walk & when I experienced a theft (many occuring on complex & on close beaches) the reception staff didn't want to know, directing me to the "local" police approx 10-15 miles away. The only positive to the hotel is thier entertainment team. They always put in 110% but have no budget to work with making their shows quite poor. The on site supermarket has no stock & both it & on site souvenier shop were very expensive. Unless you ate at the hotel (which isn't particularly nice by the way) there were only 2 restaurants in walking distance (1 very expensive & 1 very reasonable - La bogetha, recommended). They also wanted to charge 100 euros a day for a kia pride!!. On the whole unless your a German staying on an all inclusive basis I wouldn't go near this hotel with a barge pole & will not be returning to this hotel or even the highly priced, super comerciallized, green, murky sea's (no longer blue & clear as previously experienced) of the stiflingly hot isle of Ibiza again.

Room Tip: Explain that you have walking difficulties to get a more accessable room

“Lovely retreat”

As the only two english guests, we were made to feel welcome, our rooms were lovely, the views around the complex were beautiful, the pools all 3 were lovely, clean, warm and relaxing, the cafe and shops were served by friendly staff, shop was expensive, it is located a 10 minuite bus ride out of san antonio, with 2 beautiful beaches 5 minuites away, take a walk to the right of the complex you can access a fantastic scenic cliff walk, spectacular scenery, the food was plenty, the beer and wine was free with the evening meal, the staff work so hard to keep the complex clean, and cannot do enough for you. We got a great bargain, i will go again, the only thing i would take extra, is i would take a kettle for the room, hairdryers and towels are supplied. Loads of activities to take part in, and entertainment every evening, it wasnt noisy. bus stop is outside hotel and buses leave every hour to san antonio, you can access any part of the island from there,

“got a big house instead of family room”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 July 2009

We travelled with 5 persons (with 1 toddler) and had booked only a family room. When we arrived, our suitcases got delivered to a little summer house. We got a living room, 2 bedrooms, a kitchen (but no cooking utilities) and 2 bathrooms (2 bathtubs) and a huge terrace. There was another room, but it was locked. We met another big family, but they had bigger kids. They also lived in a house and had 3 bedrooms. So we had plenty of space and were downhill. Therefor we had shortly to walk to the big activity pool.
The activity pool was the attraction for the kids and adults. There was a part of the pool it was 140 cm deep, then there was a 100 cm deeper step (so you could jump from the higher part of the pool 100 cm into the lower part of the pool that was 265 cm deep.
The kids loved the animation, especially the maxies+12 loved Joseph who did a very good job. We were not so happy with the adult animation. We would like to play beachvolleyball daily or even twice a day (at 10 and at 16h), but it was only every 3 days, and animation starts for adults at 11. Most of the time was "low" activity: darts, sjoelen, ping pong. We wanted more action waterball + volleyball.
The breakfast was fine. The dinner was okay it was not very selective. My kids are picky eaters and only didn-t find one day out of 11 nothing that they like. The dinner was also not the kind of meal that swimms in a strange fatty sauce. I ate every evening fish and it was very delicious. For dinner it was sometimes hot in the dining room, but most of the time we sat outside on the terrace and had a wonderful view.
The staff was very nice (most of them were German).
What I liked at the hotel was that it was wide spreaded. You never got the feeling that it was crowded (and we were there in the main season). There were 6 tennis-courts, 3 pools, beachvolleyball pit, Miniature Golf and it has the shady inner court where 2 ping pong tables were and 2 billiard tables. So in the hot noon time you could play nicely ping pong there. There were always people playing with their kids. There was a libary with English and German books and 3 computers. You could bring your own computer and surf the internet also.
At the pool area you could always find a place with an umbrella. It was never overcrowded.
The hotel was too far away from San Antoni. But there was a bus going hourly there and back. There we could do cheap grocery shopping (there was an expensive grocery shop at the hotel) or cloth shopping. There in San Antoni you can meet most of the English tourists whereas in the hotel most people are German. If you like to rent a car book it from home because it is hard to rent a car at a decent price since this year are 3.000 less rental cars on the Baleares.

“Chicken Nuggets for Breakfast?!!!??”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 July 2009

Myself and my partner (aged 28-36) arrived on the 30th June 2009 and stayed at the Stella Maris for 8 nights, it was quite easy to find as i have been to Ibiza many times. On arrival the reception was clean and what you would expect for a 3 star hotel (spanish rated), the reception staff was nice and seemed to be quite helpful. We was all inclusive so we had to wear wristbands all the time, if you took them off they broke. The room was at the top of a big hill, so you need to be quite fit to lug your case to the top as there is no body to help. The room was spacious and and the decor was a bit outdated but again this is what you expect for 3 star. The view off the balcony was lovely, you could see all San Antonio all the way around to the bay. Not all rooms had such a great view. The hotel in general was clean apart from the toilets near the pool and reception which always smelt terrible and the toliet seats was never wiped clean. The pool near the main bar was nice but very overcrowed, the chill out pool was much better when kids wasnt there but as this is a family hotel there was a lot of kids running around, spashing etc
The restuarant was always clean but got very hot and there wasnt many out door seating.
Breakfast was a little poor, the general cereal, ham and cheese with bread, yoguart and then on the cooked selection...eggs scrambled, eggs boiled, those little crap sausages and.. chicken nuggets???!!! The dinner menu was a little better with some nice fish, meat...but again pizza and chips every day. The evening meal was terrible, not much selection and far to hot in the resturant to eat. The resturant does have a bad fly problem also, so if you dont mind flys on your food and on you whilst your eating then its fine.
The drinks was local beer (half pint plastic cups outside, glass inside) which was quite nice, the wine was local but taste very cheap, the vodka was like water. The bar staff was very ignorant and none of them speak english, i do try to speak a tiny bit of spanish but this didnt help at all. The hotel si a good 20 minute walk from the sunset strip, a taxis is around 7 euros going and about 9 back, you can get the bus for 1.45 euro but this only runs from 8am-1pm, 5pm-9pm.
All in all i thought the hotel was rubbish, we was the only english in the whole hotel the rest was german, all the entertainment was in german (and also was terrible) and so was everything else activity wise.

“rude, rude, rude!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2009

specifically choose this hotel as it was in beautiful cala gracio, far enough away from san an for relaxing but close enough to restaurants clubs etc (not that san an has any worthy of spending time in!)
on arrival at the hotel we were greeted by a particularly sourfaced ibizian who clearly disliked english speakers, after waiting around for a half an hour we were given a map to our rooms and that was that. The hotel is beautiful and is set on a hillside so it gives views right over the bay but we didnt get to enjoy these... when we arrived at our room they had given us an adjoining room with another couple! we had paid for a double room so to have a connecting door with no lock was unexceptable, the walls were like paper and not worth the 700 pounds we paid!
after explaining this all to another rude member of staff we were told they had no other rooms, but then ten minutes later she produced a key to another room.
new room was dark and basement esque and had a patio which faced a wall...destroyed the whole holiday!i wouldnt stay at this hotel again for these reasons, but more importantly the staff had little or no respect for their customers simply because we speak english!

  • Liked — the beautifull location
  • Disliked — the extremmmmmmmmeeelyy rude staff!
