This hotel really is all about the view. The view from our fjord view room was stunning.

However, other aspects of the hotel were less than impressive.

For a hotel of this price / star rating, I would expect to have a bathrobe and safety deposit box, rather than having to hire them. The hotel had far too many money making charges, eg, charges for the tennis courts, pedallos, squash courts, even a 50 NKr charge to use an empty room they called the Yoga room. These services should really be free! In particular the tennis court charge seemed excessive given the poor quality of the surface.

Several other areas of the hotel could be better. The overall condition of our room was tired. The wall was covered in scuff marks, the lamp shades were stained, and the complimentary toiletries were poor quality.

The public areas of the hotel are better maintained and the reception staff were great.

The breakfast buffet was rather chaotic, particularly given the nightly influx of big tour groups. On several occasions, we had to ask for basics such as coffee and bread as the waiting staff weren't keeping them stocked. Overall the buffet needed better management.

If you aren't in a tour group, you would be better off going to the guest house in Lofthus for a lovely local Norwegian (or Thai) dinner, rather than paying for the hotel's dinner buffet - the price of which was rather excessive.

I booked this hotel as it looked fantastic on the website, with the UK pound to Kroner exchange rate it worked out pretty expensive by UK standards so was expecting something special. The location is stunning although nothing much goes on in Lofthus itself, we only found one restaurant that could offer an alternative to the incredibly expensive hotel evening meal (£55 per person for a buffet). Our room was OK but felt very tired, particularly the bathroom where the bath had obviously been repaired several times. I also found it quite cheapskate not to have any tea/coffee making facilities in the room. Overall it was a disappointment especially as it was our 'treat' hotel for this holiday.

I have just read some of the reviews and wanted to comment on my stay in April this year. We stayed in a room with fjord view and it was worth every single cent. I do not understand how someone could even question the fact of paying more for a room with fjord view, I simply don't get it - want a view - pay for it. It's that easy. The service was impeccable throughout our whole stay (5 nights) and I cannot imagine the owner family being more welcome and warm. We were greeted in the hotel by them and as from the second day even by our names. That is something I have very rarely experienced in my travelling and very highly appreciated. The 5 days were as relaxing as we had planned them to be, enhanced by the sympathetic staff of the hotel and their eagernes to make our stay as pleasant as possible. I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone, even high demanding clients will be satisfied - I don't doubt that.

we had a great stay at this wonderful hotel. very good dinner at the zanoni restaurant with excellent service. nice room with a stunning view over the fjord. everybody very friendly and helpful. very well run.
