We stayed in the Samui Amanda in September 2007. It was our first trip to Thailand and as a couple in our early thiries, we wanted a nice play to stay that wasn't in the very busy (but lovely beach!!) Chaweng. The Hotel is on the North West side of the Island near a port called Nathon. Nathon is quite a busy little town and you can get some great street food by the port. Nathon is about 5 minutes drive from the Samui Amanda. The resort is set within woodland on a private beach. There are several bungalows closely spread out over the resort. We chose a bunglaow on the beach which was literally metres away from the sea. The rooms were very clean and furnished to a high quality. The sea was quite shallow and calm when we went although I'm not sure what it is like at other times of the year. The beach is very pretty with sand and light shingle but is not very long if you wish to go wandering for hours on end! The hotel is well off the beaten track and unless you hire a car or scooter (both of which can be done from the hotel) it is very difficult to leave the resort on foot as there isn't really anything around.
