“Stay elsewhere.”

I don't even know where to begin with this property... the best way to sum it up was "Why did we stay here!?" Especially considering how expensive this spot was!

For starters, the front desk was very hesitant to convert our dollars to local currency although they advertise that they are more than happy to do so. Like other reviewers have mentioned, the buffet was HORRIBLE!!

The beach was non-existent... it was more like a sea-grass bed with zero access to the water (extremely rocky too). The staffing at the bar(s) and restaurant were inefficient at best. We ended up spending our days at the Gecko about 1/2 a mile away due to their actual beach, better service and good food.

The beds at Insotel were so uncomfortable so we would go to the beach very early in the morning so we could sleep on the beach chairs (ha). Ah, can't forget to mention the thin walls (we were stuck between one room with a fighting couple and another with some loud lovers), which coupled with the beds meant no rest at all. If it hadn't been for the Gecko, the incredible Juan y Andreas restaurant and the other small towns on the island I would have hated my trip to Formentera.
Unless you like your resort to seem more like a cheesy cruise ship, avoid this property like the plague.

“good room but very bad food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 September 2009

the rooms are clean but a little bit dated.
the food is really terrible and if you booked all inclusive the wine is not worth one penny!!
there must be better hotels or hostals on the island.

“Lovely Island, take hotel with a little pinch of salt”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 July 2008

I have stayed at this hotel 7 times in the last 10 years and I have has some of the most amazing holidays here. The Island of Formentera is absolutely gorgeous and the Hotel is very much what you see is what you get! The Hotel was refurbished about 10 years ago so i guess may be a little tired, but the standard of cleanliness i have found to be second to none.

The main thing to know about this hotel is that it is in no way geared towards English visitors as the majority of guests are Italian or German. That for me has always been a positive point for this hotel as I like to mix with different cultures when on holiday!! The staff who are Spainish are extremely helpful and friendly, although getting to know them takes a little time and speaking a bit of Spainish to them goes a very long way! In my experience being friendly with the staff has always ended in an excellent holiday, good service in the dining room and plenty of free drinks at the bar and disco!!

One major plus point of this hotel is that when you have lunch or dinner at the hotel you get free wine, soft drinks and water with your meal! and if you are a party of 4, you can quite happily order a bottle of wine each at the start of your meal and if you eat on the terrace and take your time over your food, once the restaurant closes you will have not only your wine but also a prime table to watch the show if you wish!!

As for the entertainment it is very much tongue in cheek stuff! but if you are there with a family the kids will be fully entertained along with the adults! if you have an open mind and aren't expecting Oscar nominated entertainment then you won't be disappointed!

The daytime activiteies are also very good and you can participate as much or as little as you like, things such as boules, darts, volleyball, archery, water polo, football etc are all available every day included in the price of your holiday and not to be missed is the daily cocktail games at the pool bar!! there is even a certificate presentation in the evening for winners of the activites!

If you are thinking of going to this hotel with children aged 4-14 i would highly recommend it, the mini club for youngsters is fanctastic and young teenagers will make many friends from different countries and can wander around the complex very safely and will be always entertained.

Please don't listen to all the negative reviews on this site!! this hotel gives as much or as little as you want, if you never leave the complex you won't be bored and at the same time it is an excellent base from which to hire a car and explore this island!! enjoy your holiday.

“Schizophrenic Hotel run by the Italian Gestapo”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 July 2008

The hotel has the facade of a well-run business-class hotel that could almost be situated anywhere. The room and facilities were OK, although the air-con worked just about acceptibly in the room. We did the B&B rate.

There's a good watersports facility on-site ("Wet4Fun") with friendly staff and although the beach at the hotel isn't suitable for bathing (rocky + surf) there's a lovely section just 150m east in front of a good restaurant (who do a great Gazpacho despite it not being on the menu) with a boardwalk covering most of the distance. The Blue Bar is 250m-ish further on.

Food was OK, although the salad bar on the terrace outside looked very dodgy, and don't try the "hamburger".

Worst part of the experience was the inflexibility of the staff. Pages of rules are everywhere. Don't think of choosing a table on the terrace that doesn't have a cloth. Although there are two pools and a beachfront, you vil receive stern, evil looks if you walk through the concourse in wet or sandy clothing (yes there is signage to that effect). They even have an information book at reception that amounts to "The 100 Commandments". It's like a scenario-thinker's wet-dream. In fact the only rule they have overlooked is "Don't fart at 100 decibels"! What's more is that the staff feverishly adhere to the rules; there are so many Jobsworths that Esther Rantzen would have a field day! If you're one minute late for breakfast, forget any idea of eating anything, and they won't let you take anything out to your room unless you're very discreet and crafty.

If you stay here, do make a mission of smuggling food out of the restaurant. Rules are made to be broken ;)

“fab island but dodgy hotel”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 July 2008

Stayed at the insotel formentera during July 2008.

First thing I have got to say is that the hotel itself is quite nice. The rooms are ok and kept clean. bathroom was also ok and all rooms had a balcony.

Stayed half board and all meals were buffet style. im afraid the food left a lot to be desired. poor choice, poor quality and often meals which should be hot for taste and safety were luke warm.

Most of the guests were italian and were all well behaved. lots of noisy kids about making the pool not an option for us. having said that we would always use the beach anyway.

Staff at the hotel were ok except for about three who served at the pool bar who were downright rude on occasions.

I would never let my exoerience of this hotel put me off the island. it was quite simply magical. the sand on the beaches is lovely and the sea clear. A short trip to illietes is a must as it was regarded as one of the words top beaches a few years ago and i can see why, you would think you were on a caribean island.

Dont go if you are offended by nudity as most people on the beaches have their kit off !

In short give formentera a try but Id avoid the Insotel if going again.
