We stayed here for one night mid-July (should have been more but hubby wanted to get back to our hoilday home to watch the Cup Final!), mainly to partake in quad biking and canoeing which is arranged by the hotel.

Hotel is quite isolated, but in a lovely location in the hills. Had dinner on arrival, which was excellent, and the continental breakfast the following morning was very good - toast/bread with jams, cheese and pate, plus yoghurts and fresh fruit. Rooms are large and very clean.

Our guide for the quad biking and canoeing was Paul, who was full of information on the area and very enthusiastic. We will be doing this again next month when our daughter and boyfriend are with us. Would highly recommend this activity.

Has an Honesty Bar on the patio which is useful during the afternoon when the bar is closed.

The family who run the hotel and all very friendly and helpful, especially Tom, the son, who is full of useful information.

We booked a double room for 2 adults and 1 child at la mariposa via an online reservation company. We paid a deposit and had an instant confirmation of our booking. An email from 'la mariposa' was received asking if we needed an extra bed. We told them that our 5 year old boy would share our bed, so this wasnt necessary. Another email from la mariposa, requesting more money for a 3rd person in the room. We explained that we had booked a double room and stated the number of people to occupy the room. We had paid a deposit and booked in good faith. When we book hotels online there are often 'child stays free' places, therefore, we did not think it unusual that a 5year old stayed free. The emails from la mariposa became increasingley rude and unhelpful.We contacted the online reservation company at la mariposa's request and sent them a copy of the mail. La mariposa responded by saying the mail to the reservation company was 'upsetting' (despite simply stating the facts) and they CANCELLED our confirmed booking. We were told by la mariposa not to contact them again. We contacted the reservation company and informed them. Luckily, we were refunded our deposit. We did not get to stay at this hotel and perhaps we had a lucky escape. The attitude of the management is rude, inflexible and unhelpful.

arrived mid afternoon to a warm welcome. easy to find and in a superb location. rooms large and airy, beds best we have slept on away from home. food superb, could not fault it at all. Tom, the owners son, is an assett to the family, nothing was ever too much trouble for him, always ther when you needed him, even late at night to get a drink last thing. his knowledge of the area brilliant, he recommened a superb indian resturant, had a fab meal there, if you like your indian food ask him to book you atable there, you won't be disappointed. overall really enjoyed our stay there, will def go back and def recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in the area. have a lovely boxer called bruno and cat called mitten.

Stayed at this hotel for a week in order to do some walking in the Sierra D'Espuna. We chose this hotel on good reports found on this site and it lived up to our expectations. The room was spacious and clean, the meals, though simple, were good and excellent value. The whole family gave a very friendly service and helped us with walking routes, having a series of guides and maps available. Tourism has not taken over the area yet so it is still very quiet and very Spanish but we found that walking trails were very clearly marked and well maintained. Due to the late spring the area was very beautiful with many wild flowers in abundance. A car is essential to reach the hotel and for exploring the nature reserve.
