Travelled to Spain with friends on a walking holiday. The welcome and service we received was superb and we were made to feel very welcome by the ex pat Brittish family who run this hotel and who could not have been more helpful when we encountered a tricky medical situation.
We were expertly guided by Dennis who took us on two wonderful walks in the Espuna mountains and we did the quad bike experience which was very safe and professionally led by Paul. Tom, who has been mentioned in previous reviews is very entertaining despite supporting an odd football team :) and always provided service with a smile.
If you are looking for a 5 star hotel with fine dining then this probably is not the location for you, but the rooms are clean and comfortable, the food is home cooked, tasty and more than adequate but you may it feel a little 'samey' if you are stopping more than two or three nights. Other restaurants are available in the wider area but you will need to drive to them.
In summary this is a well run, excellent value, friendly establishment in which to base yourself for an outdoor activity break.

My family and friends have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions. We spent Christmas 2010 and had a wonderful time. The hotel is run by the family. The accommodation is comfortable and clean. There is a lounge,dining area and a bar. The food is not gourmet style but good home cooking. There is a large terrace for outside dining and drinks.During the spring and summer you can enjoy the use of the large swimming pool. There are a number of activities arranged by the family and include quad biking, organised walks and kayak tours. They provide musical nights and special events. The prices are excellent. This is a place to visit for all the family. The village of Gebas is close by and worth a walk. The Espuna National Park is also worth a visit. We have always had a good experience!

Really bad experiance.
An old school friend and I chose the hotel primarily based upon location and price.

Sadly the idea of two grown men sharing was a deeply uncomfortable situation for the owner who was initially 'off' with us and then decided to make politically incorrect jokes presumably to make him either feel more comfortable or establish for certain we were gay - which we are absolutely not.

In a nutshell it was like being in an unfunny episode of Fawlty Towers. Our greeting consisted of being presented with our bill which we duly paid.

The room was shabby and musty. The food was really not up to scratch. There was some attempt at local cuisine, but the overwhelming was that it was all on the cheap. The 'English' food was clearly supermarket own brand stuff.

The most unsettling factor of all was the family that ran the place. This isn't a hotel, it is a family who put people up for money. A family I would struggle to imagine anyone would want to lodge with.

We stayed at Hospederia La Mariposa for 3 nights with a small group of friends in February 2011, the food and the service was 1st class and the costs were far better than expected after reading a recent review on Tripadvisor which in our opinion was far from fair., we partook as a group on a guided walk where the hotel supplied the guide, 2 couple including ourselves went on a quad biking and kayak tour, our guides were very patient and helpful and the area that they took us was a stunning blue lagoon which was situated on a lunar type landscape badlands.
The hotel was quaint, very clean and the rooms were spacious, we have already booked to return in the Autumn.
