“I am sure some of these reviews are written by the hotel....”

My fiancee and I stayed here last summer, largely based on the strength of a lot of the reviews on trip advisor. At the time I worried a little that they were fraudalent reviews put on here by the hotel and it seems I may have been right. The hotel is very dated - certainly not my idea of a modern 5 star luxury hotel. We had booked a jacuzzi suite which was comfortable, but again, a very long way from luxury. The pool areas were 'mediocre' at best and the food in the buffet was very sub-standard. The food in the nightly themes restaurants was better but these evenings were tarnished by the staff constantly giving us a hard sell to buy bottles of wine which were obviously excluded from the all inclusive package we had paid for. This hotel should not be calling itself a 5* resort as quite simply, it is not.

The beach is not very nice and by the end of our week stay, we were walking to local restaurants for lunch and dinner as we'd had enough of the hotel restaurants.

The bar for suite guests (I can't remember the name) was the only saving grace - this was a really nice environment and the staff here (one lady in particular) were very friendly and always made us feel very welcome.

All in all, for couples looking for a relatively luxurious (obviously not hawaii/maldives standard), break, I think you'll be disappointed.

Room Tip: If you do stay here, go for a suite.

“Wonderful resort”

We have been to Minos Imperial several times our last visit being September 2011. We had a wonderful time and have recently decided to return in May 2012.

I must admit that I have read some of the other reviews and cannot believe that most of these criticisms are justified. We have never encountered any problems and would certainly not decide to return if we had.

In fact 2 years ago my husband decided that this was the place he would like to be to celebrate his 70th birthday. We took family with us and had a very special time. Our grandson loved the many pools and water shutes and the staff were brilliant with him.

This is a beautiful relaxing resort that has always been kept very clean and staff are friendly and attentive. We have never had any problems with our dining experience in any of the restaurants. I would recommend the All Inclusive package if you intend to stay at the resort for the majority of your stay.

I do agree that select class does give you that extra special experience but we have also met other people who have booked premium class and have been just as happy and would return to the resort.

We have travelled quite extensively in the past and have stayed in some lovely places. Minos Imperial is the one that keeps drawing us back!

I hope that this will help anyone who is considering going to Minos Imperial you will not be disappointed.

“the most amazing hotel i ever been.”

Trip Advisor
In September 2011 I holidayed at the resort hotel Mino Imperial in Crete and it was one of most wonderful and magical holidays that I have ever been on.
It is such a fantastic place that you feel like "Royalty" the staff without exception from the senior to the most junior staff made every effort to make us experience the perfect vacation.
Starting from the spectacular views the lush vegetation and public spaces which was kept spotlessly clean to the rooms which were spacious made you feel pampered topped off with great service, wide menu selection at the restaurants
The quiet and country vistas have stayed with me long after the holiday has finished ,it was a holiday that I will remember for a very long time and I'm already looking forward to a return trip there.

“Sheer disappointment”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 October 2011

Just came back from a 4 nights stay at the hotel. Had been so disappointed that had to share our experience :(
Reservation:
We have prepaid for a family room. with 2 parents and 3 young children (2,5 and 8 y/o), we expected suitable accomodations. When arriving to the hotel, we were given two sets of keys to 2 rooms, but when we got to the rooms we discovered that these are simply 2 adjacent rooms (although mini-suites), with no connecting door !!! Can't really leave 3 kids on a room by themselves, can we? We went back to the reception, and they reluctantly moved us to a single two stories apartment with 2 rooms for us (A family room !), and for some reason kept complaining that they have to *upgrade* us !!!
Facilities:
The hotel is very nicely decorated, and is kept in a very good and clean shape. however, the public outdoors area is paved with shiny ceramic tiles, which proved to be a very dangerous adventure during our stay, since it was raining, and these tiles don't work well together with water, turning the floor to a deadly, slippery trap. We, as well as numerous other guests, had been flying off these floors repeatedly when trying to cross the path from the rooms to the main restaurants building.
Staff:
most of the staff do not really speak English. Getting answers to very simple questions proved itself to be an impossible task. The worst experience came after during one of the nights our s years old kid decided to throw up in bed. We quickly changed the bed linen, and put it in a neat pile in the bathroom. When the cleaning crew came the following morning, they called in the hotel manager !!! (not sure what they thought happened to the sheets, but maybe the fact that the kid's last meal had been hot dark chocolate drink might contain the clue :) The hotel manager started *shouting* at us aggressively and scolded at us, claiming that "We upgraded your room, you should have at least taken better care of the room !". This was a frightening and humilating experience :( He also did not agree to provide us his name when we asked for it, and just threatened to call our travel agent ?!?!
Food:
Coming to the dining room you get a feeling like you are there for the feast of your life. there is a great assortment of dishes and fruit and vegtables ! However, it took us only one meal to understand the difference between promise and reality... The very good looking fruit and vegtables had managed to cross the coarse line between "ripe" and "spoiled", and most of it is unedible. Needed to select them one by one to find something that can be eaten. As for the dishes - completely tasteless at best. Greek cusine is very good, and in all the restaurants we ate at we had great meals, but for some reason the same dishes at the hotel were a disaster. Also, drinks are no available. There are 3 full beverage machines at the dining room, with all the available Pepsi flavors, but none of them worked ! some of the days they were hooked in, but only vended soda water, without the flavoring part. The only working machine had some local flavors fo Cola, but when we tried it we discovered that it too was out of flavoring canisters, and vended tasteless, lukewarm soda.

I must mention that we stayed at the last week of the season, so it might have been the cause for the obvious lack of service (staff, food, ingredients), but if this is the case - the season should have ended a week earlier, when the supplies ran out !

being #1 in Milatos is a misleading statement, which we fell for this time. Milatos is a hell-hole with no other hotels ! There are probably many other much better hotels in much better locations nearby.
