“14th century hamlet”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 August 2007

It’s been nearly two months since we returned from Italy but pleasant thoughts of Borgo di Vagli still remain. We stayed in a restored 14th century 3 bedroom, 2 bath villa with wonderful views of Castle Pierl across the valley. The villa included all the comforts of home: spacious rooms, great bathrooms and bath products, internet access, full equipped kitchen including dishwasher, window screens, swimming pool and daily maid service.

This restored hamlet is about 2 hours from Rome, 20 minutes from Cortona and many of the interesting hill towns of Tuscany and Umbria. A beautiful romantic hideaway, I can’t wait to get back!

“Magical!”

There is not much more I can add to the prior reviews except to update that the property in July of 07 is still as the others described.

It is a truly magical experience.Very remote but it won't take long to adapt to the quiet and beauty of the the property and entire region.

We stayed in a 2 bedroom/2bath unit. The developers took great pride putting authentic amenities in each residence. The staff is helpful and attentive when needed. We ate in the private Trattoria twice and it was quite special. Our only concern the whole week was for the bees around the pool but your are in a wooded, landscaped area so I'm not sure there is not much that can be done.

We stopped at a market and picked up some fresh food basics for breakfast prior to our arrival. They have a market on site for other essentials. Every morning we would sit out at a table with quiet views of the Tuscan Hills and the medieval, ivy covered Castle down the road . What more could you ask for?

We used this location to explore SE Tuscany and Northern Umbria. We visited Cortona, Assisi, Perugia and Lake Trassimeno.

I agree that the presentation for purchase was extremely low pressure. The units are selling out quickly so they do not need to be pushy. They know they have a special place on their hands.

  • Liked — Beautiful and authentic
  • Disliked — Remote location.... although that is also the appeal. Bees we a problem too.

“Spectacular Country Side & Views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2005

In August 2004, I spent 7 nights in unit #17 - Romantique, which was a studio unit detached from all the other buildings on the edge of this 13th refurbished hamlet. I wasn't quite prepared for the remote location; however, it grew on me! Maybe I just didn't do enough research prior to arriving. The hamlet is about 20 minutes east of Cortona and 2 km off the main road on a "white road" (gravel). It was well worth it for the peace and quiet.

The staff were very pleasant and eager to help in anyway possible! There was no high pressure for a timeshare sale, just a chat about the opportunities provided. The people staying were delightful and well traveled.

The location was provided many opportunities for day trips. The mountain location provided a much appreciated drop in temperature in the evening. This was simply an awesome experience. I would go again in a heartbeat!

“A True Tuscan experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 January 2005

The Hamlet is isolated (a 2 kilometre drive on a unpaved road, which undulates and we were told about prior to arrival). But the view from this beautifully restored Hamlet is well worth the 4 minute drive. Each property is beautifully restored and the attention to detail is complete. We have been renting accommodation in Tuscany and Umbria for over 20 years and whilst the accommodation has been getting better (flushing toilets etc) over the last 10, non compare to Borgo di Vagli. The management and staff are friendly, polite and very helpful. And the food in the trattoria is some of the best I have tasted in the area. Albeit pricey but well worth eating 2 or 3 times a week if you can manage it. Pizza night on a Monday is very popular so book in on arrival, we stayed for 2 weeks and missed out on first week. The Hamlets location is ideal for day excursions to Cortona, lake trasemeno, Montepulciano, Montalcino, Assisi, Perugia, Siena. And you can take a train from Cortona to Florence in an hour. Although the resort is a Club residence (timeshare) we were never hassled to attend a presentation, but did speak to the project manager Lee Cogher who we purchase a week from so we could return each year. The Hamlet's clientele are like minded with an academic background and generally well travelled.
We could strongly recommend a true Tuscan experience at Borgo di Vagli.
The Tomlinson family.
