“A beautiful and romantic hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 September 2011

Located outside Verona, this luxury palazzo boutique hotel was a pleasant surprise. It is surrounded by a beautiful garden which is filled with so many roses that their scent fills the air. The lobby is filled with the most amazing works of contemporary art such as Damian Hurst and Anish Kapoor among many others. Th rooms are clean and with a hip decorating style mirroring the contemporary image of the hotel. Lovely spa and lovely fine didning. There is also a swimming pool surrounded by roses! Very romantic.

“Close to perfect”

This hotel truly lives up to what you see on the website, if anything it is even more stunning. We loved the interiors. Our room was perfect and outside the gardens and pool are lovely. We were lucky to be here when it was quiet and the weather was good so we hardly left the hotel! A lot of thought goes into detail to make your stay special and although we have exacting standards there was little to fault. The staff all play their part in making you feel welcome and cared for. The general manager is visible in leading the team and attentive to guests. We have only three points for improvement:
1. Provide free wifi
2. Having the inside and outside bars staffed at all times
3. Improve the restaurant and light lunch meals.
The restaurant is not of the same standard as the rest of the hotel and after discussion with the GM we were told plans are underway to address this. A Michelin star standard restaurant would make the place perfect. Currently the food prices are high but the standard is inconsistent and light meals are uninspiring.
However we would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. We had a lovely time and will definitely return.

Room Tip: It is worth paying a bit more to get one of the more spacious and luxury rooms.

“Stay at Byblos but be warned You may NOT want to leave........”

A little heaven not far from Verona...GPS is recommended to find it...In mid to end of may you'll be enchanted in a garden of roses and jasmine. Fabulous outdoor pool with perfect temperature, yes, some 5 star hotel especially in Toscany have no heated pools and the H2O does not warm up as you've expected...Superb breakfast, great gym area (not big), gorgeous indoor spa. Get the rejuvanating body wrap....wonderful dinner menu...be spoiled. Don't be fooled the art is outragiously modern inside...I could spend much much more time in here.........

Room Tip: choose the upstairs rooms near the rose garden....

“Needs work to make it a luxury experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 August 2011

This is a beautiful Italian villa on the outskirts of Verona (30 minutes by car) entered by a rather stunning driveway.Check in staff are efficient and professional however, the check in area would be insufficient if there is more than one set of people checking in, at one point a queue was spilling over Into the entrance lobby/art gallery area. It would make more sense to make use of this huge room for a more personal and relaxed check in, as you would get with many luxury hotels. There is no doubt this hotel sets out to be a luxury hotel, and in many ways it is, but it feels like something is missing. Turn down consisted of a housekeeper coming to the door and rather embarrassingly asking 'did we want anything' she had a bottle of cleaning spray in a basket and nothing else. The second night, realising we had to ask specifically for what we wanted, we asked for turn down and clean towels, we got one clean towel!. The bedroom was decorated nicely in the arty way of the rest of the hotel, bedlinen needed an update. The dining experience was sadly lacking, from the inadequate use of space to the rather mediocre food. We ate in what is called a conservatory, it is not, it is a plastic covered area attached to the back of the house and with no daylight whatsoever - such a shame. A serious opportunity is missed here. One diner asked if it was possible to have breakfast outside on such a lovely morning, he was told it was too chilly!! Are we not in Italy in the height of summer? Most people arriving at breakfast frequently stood looking lost as there was no one assign you to a table. The wifi was 17 euro per 24 hours, ridiculous in this internet age (we arrived here having spend 3 weeks travelling through the Baltics and eastern Europe, with not a charge for wifi). There is a pretty good shuttle service run by the hotel into Verona. This is an interesting hotel, (if you can cope with an abundance of interesting/strange/erotic art work) but I feel it falls short of a luxury experience.

“Gaudy to the point of pain, very expensive, great pool though!”

Stayed there for a small conference nearby a few months ago.
The hotel as a building is very professionally remodelled. The gardens and pools are absolutely gorgeous--I mean gorgeous.
Service was not bad, but not great.
The main problem is that inside of this place is so tackily done: it looks like the owner won the Euromillions and had always wanted to spend enough euros to bail out Greece on naked girl art (with a few quirky pieces thrown in for credibility).
I mean, really, a solid gold Kate Moss sculpture?
And all the pieces were so crowded together that they all lost considerable aesthetic value.
