“Definitely will be returning to Angel's Apartment Castara.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 December 2010

I had a really fun time at Angel's Apartment. It was exactly as advertised on their website.
The staff were friendly. The rooms were clean and comfortable. It actually is a two minute walk from the beach. There is a cosy little beach bar and resturant in which the prices were very good. Certainly not a tourist trap.
Do note that it is self-catering so be sure to stock up on supplies from the supermarket or whatever you need if you intend to do your own cooking and such. Besides, you're not going to want to leave once you get there.
Though suitable for everyone, I've found Angel's Apartment to be very romantic and is ideal for couples. By boyfriend loved it as well.
I simply can't wait for my next stay at Angel's Apartment Castara.

“A great place to hang out, between the rainforest and the beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2010

A well-situated set of self-catered apartments on Castara's little bay.

Dexter Taylor is lovely, and cooked us dinner our first evening when we discovered there were no restaurants we could go to and simply couldn't bring ourselves to cook. He also threw us a party (complete with band, barbecue and pool) which was great fun!

Overall I greatly enjoyed my stay, and Angel apartments was very convenient.

Ali Baba tours are just next door, and it's a 2 min walk to Castara's small bay. It is also far away enough from the bars on Castara big bay, and with the love Tobagoans seem to have for massively huge loudspeakers and very very high volume music, we were all grateful to not have to listen to the beach party music late at night.

The bedroom is a goodly size, the dining room and kitchen area is massive, and the bathroom is nearly as large as our London living room!! Space seems to come cheap enough in Tobago, and this makes for a very relaxed stay.

Sadly our room (#2 on the top floor) had its kitchen faucet break twice, soaking our floor and raining on the room below, and our air conditioning unit categorically refused to function during our one-week stay. Dexter tried to fix it, (it appears he didn't know there was a problem with it in the past) but the spare part(s) didn't come in time for us to have a single night's cool sleep. Given that everyone else had the benefit of that (and with 30 degrees of humid heat you want that) we did feel cheated. No discount was offered, but there were profuse apologies.

After a week in Castara, I was glad we stayed at Angel. We were 12 and rented out the whole 2 floors. Hanging out on the massive balconies in the evening playing games was perfect, and generally the ambiance was great.

Shame for the aircon and faucet, which is what has cost this place the 2 stars. That and the mosquitos.... Do NOT go there without Deet or your bug repellent of choice. One of us found citronella oil in one of the tiny shops. We'd have spent all week scratching ourselves without it!!

“Perfect nature getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2010

I would have stayed at Angel's with my group in January 2010. Though I'm a native of Tobago I have always had a love for Castara. The Angel apartments only assisted in making my love for this beautiful village stronger. The weekend spent was well enjoyed as the service proved by the ever helpful owner Dexter and helpful staff like the Manager Steve made our stay perfect. Spacious kitchens allowed us to prepare marvelous breakfast from local fruits and vegetables and the dirt oven baked the breads we kneaded ourselves.
The breath taking view of the sun setting and rising at the horizon marking where the beach, just a stone's throw away from our rooms balcony, met the sky.
The pool and proximity to the beach are a welcomed addition and the sound of the roosters make you never forget you're not in the city. Yes I might have missed having a television and a dvd but I guess that's why Angel's the perfect getaway. No disturbances.
I've already booked my next stay for July and this time it'll be an intimate one, hint to all the lovers it's ideal if you want to stay in all day!

“Beautiful Place - Wonderful People”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 October 2009

This is our seventh trip to the Caribbean but our first to Tobago. It won't be our last.

One of the ladies that we met on our trip to Tobago told us that we were lucky to have found Tobago and even luckier to have found Castara... she was quite right.

Castara is not a resort.... Castara is a working fishing village with a real community and a few apartments. We were made to feel very welcome right from the outset of our trip. Steve, the manager at Angel Apartments made sure that we had everything we needed and introduced us to some of the local people who have since become our friends.

The apartments are spacious and simply but tastefully furnished. We stayed in T1 - which is probably the best in the block ... on the top floor.... level with the canopy of the forest and a view over the bay. The furniture on the verandah is comfortable and it was very easy just to sit there and watch the birds eating from the feeders. The self catering facilities are perfectly adequate with the all important fridge for keeping the Caribs cool. A local man makes the trip around from big bay everyday with delicious fruit for you to buy.

The apartments are literally a stones throw away from the beach but contrary to other reports cannot actually be seen from the beach (unless you are twenty five feet tall). If you want discos and nightclubs.. don't go. If you want five star luxury and a la carte restaurants - don't go. If you want a place where you can enter in to the local culture and spirit of a place... this is the place for you. One of the comments on this site says this is not a restful holiday because of the local wildlife. We're amazed. We sat on the balcony watching beautiful birds, listening to the sounds of the waves on the shore as the sun went down. Yes there is the odd cockrel that crows a bit before dawn.... yes there are the sounds of nature all around you..... this is Castara - between the sea and the rainforest.

One comment on this site also complains about music/noise until 3am twice a week. Once a week the local Boat House bar/restaurant has an evening where the local steel pan group play and the local fisherman by day play the drums. The drums finish by midnight - and some local reggae music is played for you to dance to. This is a fabulous evening...... don't miss it wherever you are staying on the island.... join in! Sharon and Brendon will be happy to welcome you to the Boat House anytime... they serve good local food...and the rum punch and Carib slip down a treat.

If you're not sure you can enjoy yourself in paradise... please don't go ... leave it to those of us who can....... and who appreciate it. We will certainly be going back!

“A dream holiday in Heavenly Bay”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 March 2006

This was our first 3 week holiday and we did think that it might be too long, but not at all. We loved every minute of it. The Angel Apartments are situated in such a wonderful position and are up to a very acceptable standard. As with any new properties there were a few teething problems, but they were all being addressed as we left. The local area was just beautiful and the people so friendly and helpful. It was lively and natural, and if you didn't want to leave the apartment for dinner you could still enjoy the local ambiance and music from your own balcony.
Cockerels are never a problem, get earplugs, we have used them on all our holidays in Greece, Italy and even Cornwall. The swimming pool was a big advantage and beautifuly kept. We have been to Tobago three times now and look forward to our return visit to Angel Apartments.
