“Perfect nature getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 July 2010

I would have stayed at Angel's with my group in January 2010. Though I'm a native of Tobago I have always had a love for Castara. The Angel apartments only assisted in making my love for this beautiful village stronger. The weekend spent was well enjoyed as the service proved by the ever helpful owner Dexter and helpful staff like the Manager Steve made our stay perfect. Spacious kitchens allowed us to prepare marvelous breakfast from local fruits and vegetables and the dirt oven baked the breads we kneaded ourselves.
The breath taking view of the sun setting and rising at the horizon marking where the beach, just a stone's throw away from our rooms balcony, met the sky.
The pool and proximity to the beach are a welcomed addition and the sound of the roosters make you never forget you're not in the city. Yes I might have missed having a television and a dvd but I guess that's why Angel's the perfect getaway. No disturbances.
I've already booked my next stay for July and this time it'll be an intimate one, hint to all the lovers it's ideal if you want to stay in all day!

“Beautiful Place - Wonderful People”

This is our seventh trip to the Caribbean but our first to Tobago. It won't be our last.

One of the ladies that we met on our trip to Tobago told us that we were lucky to have found Tobago and even luckier to have found Castara... she was quite right.

Castara is not a resort.... Castara is a working fishing village with a real community and a few apartments. We were made to feel very welcome right from the outset of our trip. Steve, the manager at Angel Apartments made sure that we had everything we needed and introduced us to some of the local people who have since become our friends.

The apartments are spacious and simply but tastefully furnished. We stayed in T1 - which is probably the best in the block ... on the top floor.... level with the canopy of the forest and a view over the bay. The furniture on the verandah is comfortable and it was very easy just to sit there and watch the birds eating from the feeders. The self catering facilities are perfectly adequate with the all important fridge for keeping the Caribs cool. A local man makes the trip around from big bay everyday with delicious fruit for you to buy.

The apartments are literally a stones throw away from the beach but contrary to other reports cannot actually be seen from the beach (unless you are twenty five feet tall). If you want discos and nightclubs.. don't go. If you want five star luxury and a la carte restaurants - don't go. If you want a place where you can enter in to the local culture and spirit of a place... this is the place for you. One of the comments on this site says this is not a restful holiday because of the local wildlife. We're amazed. We sat on the balcony watching beautiful birds, listening to the sounds of the waves on the shore as the sun went down. Yes there is the odd cockrel that crows a bit before dawn.... yes there are the sounds of nature all around you..... this is Castara - between the sea and the rainforest.

One comment on this site also complains about music/noise until 3am twice a week. Once a week the local Boat House bar/restaurant has an evening where the local steel pan group play and the local fisherman by day play the drums. The drums finish by midnight - and some local reggae music is played for you to dance to. This is a fabulous evening...... don't miss it wherever you are staying on the island.... join in! Sharon and Brendon will be happy to welcome you to the Boat House anytime... they serve good local food...and the rum punch and Carib slip down a treat.

If you're not sure you can enjoy yourself in paradise... please don't go ... leave it to those of us who can....... and who appreciate it. We will certainly be going back!

“A dream holiday in Heavenly Bay”

This was our first 3 week holiday and we did think that it might be too long, but not at all. We loved every minute of it. The Angel Apartments are situated in such a wonderful position and are up to a very acceptable standard. As with any new properties there were a few teething problems, but they were all being addressed as we left. The local area was just beautiful and the people so friendly and helpful. It was lively and natural, and if you didn't want to leave the apartment for dinner you could still enjoy the local ambiance and music from your own balcony.
Cockerels are never a problem, get earplugs, we have used them on all our holidays in Greece, Italy and even Cornwall. The swimming pool was a big advantage and beautifuly kept. We have been to Tobago three times now and look forward to our return visit to Angel Apartments.

“2nd time at angel and already booked a 3rd”

so far i have stayed at angel apartments twice the first time october 2005 and the second time jan-feb 2006 and re-booked for jan 2007 already.
i have had a great relaxing stay on both occassions, the apartments are spacious, clean and well equiped and air-conditioned. Yes you do hear the cockerals in the morning but after a day or so you get used to it, and speaking to many people its the same all over the island. the locals are very friendly and always go out of there way to chat, help or offer general advice. the culture is very laid back and and the resort is unspoilt and sleepy, i would not say that angel apartments spoil castara, as it is situated at the end of the bay and you have to be on top of them before you notice them. The maid service did start to come quite early (although i never saw them at 7am as the other review stated)they would arrive about 8am but if you told them to come later they would. I also never heard music from the bar at 2am whilst i was there the music actually finished at 12am and they only done this two nights a week. Overall i think castara and angel apartment are ideal if your looking for a relaxing carefree holiday and i would recommend it.

“A holiday experience not a rest”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 February 2006

The Angel apartments are spacious and clean, situated in a beautiful bay. However we have never experienced a more noisy resort. This was due primarily to a combination of animals - cockerels and dogs, the former began to crow at 2.00 a.m. and didn't really stop until mid-morning. There was also a beach-bar next door which had music until 3.00 a.m.twice weekly. A new apartment block was being constructed behind us the noise from construction was not serious but added to the general cacophony. Maid service began every day at 7.00p.m. - and they were fairly insistent about sweeping the balcony until we arose, generally this didn't really matter not having slept for the last 5 hours! So if you want a clean apartment and pool, a beautiful beach and free range eggs, we would could recommend Castara. However if you are looking for peace and tranquillity please try somewhere else! Also beware taxi drivers, check on costs everytime you take a ride. We were grossly over-charged for an evening trip we took by a company called "Althea Gift". In fact for all trips and car hire it's worth shopping around and asking other tourists - many of the locals are friendly and honest, but many also do not seem to like tourists but are keen to see their money. All in all an island we would not visit again.
