“Did not meet expectations”

We just got back from our stay at the Palm Bay Beach resort in Antigua. We were 5 adults and 2 toddlers.

Based on the website and the reservation, our expectation was a villa with a full kitchenette and lots of activities for kids. Unfortunately, all there was in the kitchennete as a fridge, (no microwave or grill or coffee maker as promised on their website). After some asking, we were provided with 1 kettle. This is important because there is nothing available for miles, other than the restaurant on the resort (which is very expensive for every day meals). The nearest supermarket is at least 10miles away (past the 3km bumpy white road)

We were told that continental breakfast would be provided. We have travelled extensively around the world and stayed in many types of resorts, and have a good idea of what continental breakfast is, i.e. fruits, cereal, coffee, toast, etc. All we were provided was coffee and white toast. Nothing else was on offer.

The resort itself is very beautiful, located on its own private beach and a small swimming pool in a very nice tropical setting, in Browns bay. The location is in the south east corner of the island and is a bit difficult to get to. The roads and access to the resort are in terrible condition, in particular, a 3km stretch leading to the resort is not paved and has huge potholes. My pregnant wife found the ride very difficult to cope.

We had to cut short our stay since we found the place unacceptable for my wife and kids. It is a nice resort in terms of ambience, but the facilities and amenities were found wanting. Certainly not worth $300+20% tax per day.

The in-house restaurant (Tamarind) serves good italian fare, but is quite pricey, and the menu was the same all 3 days we stayed there, although they are flexible if you give them advance notice.
