We had a very pleasant stay here over Christmas. I too was concerned by the poor reviews but found the criticisms to be unfounded. As some others have pointed out, this is not a 5* resort and if this is what you are looking for then there are plenty in Antigua although they are two or three times the cost. The rooms are small but clean, the staff are lovely and the food is tasty and well prepared. The location is absoloutely wonderful but I would urge you to explore the island as there are plenty of other delightful beaches and interesting tourist attractions (don't miss the Shirley Heights party on Sunday nights). Beware however, the speed bumps on the road through the rain forest are hairy! Take them at an angle or you risk leaving your exhaust on the road.

“Jolly Beach No Worries”

My wife and I were at the resort from Feb 4 - 11. Arrived at resort around 2:30 sat afternoon checked in and were told room wasent ready, went and had lunch came back and were given a room on fourth floor, looking back we would have asked for a room on a lower floor, but no big deal. The rooms are dated as was stated in other reviews, the bed was hard but better than too soft. The A/C did not wokk, they fixed it within 15 min and it worked all week. The resort grounds are fine well kept the main pool was not to rowdy as ios the case of many all inclusives, and the grill at this pool is the best plase to get lunch, chicken, hot dogs and burgurs. The buffet food is just ok not very much changes from day to day,but you can always find something, at breakfsast the pre scrambled eggs were very runny but they have two omlet stations where they will make anything you want. As for nightly entertainment the only place to hang out is the outside bar they had limeted entertainment D J one night Local band another and fire dancers on the beach that were very good, so if your looking for those big produced shows that the mega resorts have you will not find it here. Overall the resort experience was fine, the beach and views were exellant and it was fine to walk outside the resort they have a full supermarket were you can get anything you need for a very resonable price. Also there is a marina and three or four resteraunts to eat at for a change of pace. We will be going back the people were wonderfull and the island is worth checking out.

Room Tip: Dont take fourth floor unless you like climbing stairs.

“FANTASTIC BUDGET HOTEL !”

just arrived home today and had a great week at the Jolly , had no need to worry about a lot of the bad reviews. OK first the check in ..quick enough no problems, room was good and clean although we did upgrade to standard. staff on most parts where very friendly, beach as been heard many times is fantastic, both hotel pools very good and clean. drinks wise ( alcohol !) lots of choice and never really waited for more than a few mins

we done 3 excursions/trips ... the catamaran circumnavigation with Wadadli cats which was a great day trip for $110 US and crew very friendly and not in your face like some other booze/snorkling trips I have done, and the rum punch and beer was flowing very well :) . Shirley heights is a must and we also done shopping in St Johns which was nothing special to be honest.

ok a couple bad points and all about food , buffet was good for me but my girlfriend who is a veggy did struggle nearly every meal. Lydias seafood restaurant was nice but for an all inclusive resort there was far too many supplements on the menu, and the Italian restaurant well what a let down , disinterested staff and food was average at best , not worth dressing up for and not fine dining !! ( never tried the Indian but it looked nice )

anyway them moans aside about some of the food we had a great week and the hotel for the price was brilliant ! if u are booked and are worrying about other reviews don't be as u will have a great time !

Room Tip: upgrade to standard if u have some spare cash but not necessary if u are only in the room for sleepi...

“Not value”

We had a King suite, it was very old ... First night we had expensive sunglasses stolen from our room. The managements attitude.... Oh well, you have insurance !The aircon. Took three days to be repaired. No ventilation in the bathroom. Took four days to get the towels correct. Went to the seafood restaurant, at opening one evening and two of the three entrees and one starter were off the menu.
The staff have been great, always friendly with a smile ! and a great beach.... that's all I can recommend.

“HOTEL EXPERIENCE”

I was not impressed with the quality of service from our hotel, mind you it was a 3.5 star resort. The rooms were clean, do not go for the super saver upgrade to standard. Restaurants on site were great. Even though not impressed with hotel our beach was probably the most impressive of all the beaches we visited on Antigua and I would not have traded our view for any other.

Room Tip: go for standard room or above and 2nd floor not main floor
