“Quite an experience”

I love this place, although I do know other people who aren't keen on the all-pervading sulphur smell.

It's not cheap, but the staff are charming and the rooms fine - not five star but perfectly comfortable and clean. The basket of goodies in the room was a nice touch, and we were charmed by the fact that even the children were given fluffy white bathrobes to wear.

We enjoyed the food which was fairly light, lots of fresh local produce and well cooked and presented.

The actual spa is extraordinary. Warm, sulferous water in ever permutation imaginable. I can't personally recommend drinking it although many people do. We enjoyed swimming, lolling, standing under the various theraputic fountains. There was a great mix of people there, some older but also plenty of younger couples and enough families with children that we didn't feel out of place.

I haven't been to spas in the US, I imagine it's probably not as luxurious as some but we found it fun and very relaxing.

“A visit to Old World Italy”

This is one of the most unique places in the world and the management knows it. If you are looking for value, forget it. A stay here should be clasified as an extravagant splurge in your budget. The rooms, staff and spa are true old world european. As such expect to pay. pay and pay. Worth a trip once in your life.

On the down side, the restaurant is mediocre. The club is quaint and the staff incredibly compliant.

..and that is a good thing. This is a true spa. There aren't scented candles or even soft music. Upon entering the thermal waters you immediately feel the difference in your whole being. The food is excellent and for 60.00 USD per person per day for B/L/D you cannot go wrong..wine is also excellent and priced very well!! The treatments are also very good.

Very easy to get to as well. The hotel can even arrange for pickup at the Grosseto train station since they are about 1 hour away.

Don't miss this Italian treasure.

“Oh my god! Pure Heaven!”

My only complaint about the Hotel Terme di Saturnia is that I only had 2 days to bask in its glory.

The hotel is unlike any place I have ever been. Everything has been thought of, from the luscious terry cloth robes provided at check in to the sumptuous array of foods for any diet available at all meals.

The thermal pools themselves are almost spiritual. The water has a magical quality to it that leaves you feeling divine. Loaded with plankton and minerals from the underground source, the thermal waters are incredibly healing.

The food is superb and on par with 4 star restaurants we ate at in other areas of Italy. We recommend going for the full board meal plan - you won't get bored with the food as the menu changes daily.

My husband and I stayed at the hotel for 2 days in October of 2004 with our 80 year old grandmother. We had 2 rooms just down the hall from each other. It was divine.

There are endless seas of places to relax, both indoors and out. Every night there is live music in the bar for the enjoyment of all.

My husband and I each got a massage while there. The both leaned towards the "relaxation" style, moreso than "deep tissue", so if you want a deep tissue massage, let someone know in advance.

All of the hotel desk staff members spoke excellent english, but none of the spa staff did, so make sure you know the words for "harder" and "softer". We didn't so we just had to take what we got :)

We will definitely be returning to Hotel Terme di Saturnia - this time for at least a week!

While you're there, make sure to visit nearby Sovana and the Etruscan catacombs - they're about 20 minutes up the road and well worth the trip.
