“Nice and quiet......but”

We were a little concerned by the reports of noise in previous posts, but we stayed mid week Monday to Thursday and so avoided the weekend parties. It was spookily quiet, primarily because it didn't have many guests. This is clearly set up as a daily conference venue, not a place to stay on holiday. The building was lovely. In comparison to Venice prices we had a very reasonably priced junior suite. We ate once in the restaurant, and it was delicious, but there were only 3 tables occupied. We searched many hotels in the area, and this was the nicest, Villa style of property we could find. It was conveniently located for Vicenza and Verona, but rather remote from amenities. Ironically it seemed the pool wasn't for swimming in, and certainly hadn't been cleaned for a while. We found the staff acceptably pleasant. The lack of Internet was a big issue as was the desire to use the laundry service.....which turned out to be rather expensive! I'm not quite sure how this place has 4 stars. It underperforms in comparison to other European hotels.

“A TOTAL FRAUD! Watch out.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 May 2009

This place was a VERY BAD SURPRISE. It's a TRAP. Don't go there. No correspondence whatsoever with the photos and information on website. We do not understand how it can be classified as 4 stars. We had booked 2 nights and on arrival we cancelled the 2nd night immediately. The hotel is in an INDUSTRIAL AREA - we went in May and the pool was not in use and covered by an ugly plastic -making the entrance a very sad sight. When we asked the staff they treated us like we had a wild idea that in May in Italy a hotel pool could actually be in use or at least clean and presentable to people -they said the pool starts functioning onlya s per mid June ....but the website does not mention this detail. We had booked this place because of the nice-quiet surroundings and the pool. There was a smell of manure all around the area, a back road passes practically on the backyard of the hotel. The furniture in the room was old, stained and in a disastrous state- we did not use the closet so full of dust and broken down it was. The web says they offer internet service - there was no access nowhere in the hotel. Staff did their best to be helpful -breakfast ok - but Hotel is a NO - definetely not deserving 4 * - management has no idea of ''walking the talk'' -the claims on the website are MISLEADING, we felt we had been TAKEN FOR A RIDE - A FRAUD. We stayed only because we were too tired at the end of a long traveling day and without no other reservation but we cancelled 2nd night and found a much better location in the area.

“Beautiful pool, quiet country setting”

We stayed here for 4 nights as a base camp for visiting Venice, Verona and Padova. The room was nicely furnished with antiques, though the toiletries were reminiscent of Best Western (plastic disposable cups in a 4 star hotel?). The location was very good, with easy access to the excellent Italian toll road system. It was only a 30-40 minute drive to either Venice or Verona. It was very quiet during our August visit, no parties or large groups. The breakfast was very good, and the staff will make you a fresh cappuccino or other drink if you don't want the "American coffee".

The only disappointment was the attitude of the front desk staff. Most had the demeanor of someone being forced to perform community service. Even the simplest question seemed to be a great imposition to them. I'm not sure if Americans are just persona non grata in Europe now, or if everyone got the same treatment. Regardless, the hotel was a great value and much more pleasant than something in the city centers.

“A real hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 July 2008

My husband and I stayed here for one night as part of our Italian tour. We totally loved it here and is a little bit of luxury. It is very unique inside and has many hidden rooms and places to explore. The bedrooms are full of character and very romantic with wooden beams and wooden shutters on the windows. There are beautiful grounds outside and at times it felt like I was in a scene from pride and prejudice with the lavish grounds and manor like feeling of the building. There is also a swimming pool outside and waiter service by the pool. We ate dinner there that night,al fresco, the food was delicious and the service formal and sophisticated. We would definitely recommend this villa for a night or two, anymore might be boring though as there is a sufficient amount to do for a short stay. Also the hotel are planning to introduce a spa facility which would make this heaven in my opinion. Enjoy!

“Historic hotel in the veneto countryside”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 June 2008

We stayed for a week at Villa Tacchi and were fortunate to have excellent weather - the previous weeks had been cool and damp and because of its location perhaps 10 miles from Vicenza, I would think boredom could easily set in.

We went with Saga - another bugbear for other guests I suspect - as Saga reserve one of the reception rooms for their own use. Saga also have there own cooked breakfast area - but frankly the bacon, fried tomatoes and undercooked potatoes are hardly a great draw.

But the good points, because it is a good hotel. The hotel is probably 200+ years old and has extensive gardens and plenty of places to sit. There is a pool area, which is hardly used by most guests, with loungers and shady corners to sit.

And it is surrounded by countryside with mountains in the background which is generally relaxing, except perhaps when they are hay bailing or cutting the lawns.

The staff at reception are very friendly and helpful and most speak excellent English.

As mentioned above we travelled with Saga and so had tables reserved in a small dining room and probably a limited menu for dinner. That said the choices were good, the food well cooked and presented and the wine list too was reasonable. Servicewas often slow but that is not unusual in Italy and suggests that the food is freshly prepared.

Which brings me onto the weddings and other functions. In the week we were there they had 4 functions over an extended (bank hol) weekend. We didn't find them too intrusive or noisy but then we had a bedroom (308) in perhaps a quiet part of the hotel.

The bedroom itself was quite large and well equiped - no complaints there.

One thing to consider is the distance from civilisation. You really need a car to get about as a taxi will cost you 30 euros each way to Vicenza. There is a bus service operating from Lanze (about half a mile away) for 2 euros each way to Vicenza. Once in Vicenza there is a good rail service to many towns an cities such as Padova, Verona and Venice.

All in all it was an enjoyable and relaxing week - book in for mid week if you want peace and quiet - but you do need transport.
