We stayed 3 nights here in the summer, but it seems to really focus on being a ski hotel, since it is right beside the ski lifts. Firstly, despite the name it is not actually in Meran town itself. It's 17km drive up a mountain from Meran! However, the location is undoubtedly lovely and secluded, as you look out over the mountain-tops listening to the cow-bells.
On our arrival, the hotel reception girls were incredibly helpful and pleasant - a 'nothing is too much trouble' attitude. We were shown to our room, the smallest available, and found it spacious, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. Everything was brand new and pristine.
The hotel is made up of apartments, where you can prep your own food. The kitchen was well-appointed with necessary utensils and crockery, tea-towels etc. There was a 2-ring hob and a good-sized fridge. However, if you don't want to self-cater, the restaurant is available. We ate there one evening and found it rather expensive for a 'home cooked' meal. The atmosphere was a bit Ikea-meets-Harvester, but it was child-friendly, if that's a requirement for you. Breakfast was good, with a huge German-style buffet and healthy options.
Like most Meran hotels, Merano 2000 has spa facilities. The pool was very nice and also I booked a lovely massage - you have to book on arrival or before, as the treatment rooms get booked up. The spa area was relaxing and well-maintained and guests are provided with towelling dressing-gowns and slippers to pad around the hotel in (if you want). I loved it!
Probably I would stay in central Meran next time, as there is more going on. However, I bet this hotel is a great spot during the ski season, both for skiers and non-skiers.
