Our family has been staying 3-4 weeks a year at the GranPanorama Hotel Miramonti, every year since 2003 (except 2009). On many occasions we were joined for 1-2 weeks by friends and family members from Europe and North America.

The hotel, and all rooms, feature a spectacular view overlooking the spa town of Merano. The hotel is 12km from Merano, but this is a good thing in the summer as temperatures in Merano (300m above sea-level) often run in the high 30’s with stifling humidity, while the Hotel Miramonti‘s 1200m above sea-level, mountainside location, means that, even on the hottest days, there is a nice breeze and the temperatures usually stays below 30 degrees.

Until the end of 2007, the hotel was made up of apartments with individual kitchenettes with a small convenience store in the lobby and a somewhat limited restaurant selection. However, at the beginning of 2008 the hotel underwent a major upgrade with all the rooms tastefully redecorated and with modern plasma screen TVs that feature close to a hundred channels.

The restaurant, like the rooms, overlooks Merano, and one actually feels that there is a sheer drop from the edge of one’s table down to Merano 1000m below. The main menu changes every 2 weeks and the specials of the day change every day (and in our most recent 3-week stay, rarely came back on another day). The restaurant staff is numerous (almost plethoric) and thus service is always lightning fast and friendly. The food is excellent and the Maitre d’ will be a great guide to the local wines which are excellent.

Breakfast is buffet-style with a nice variety of fruits, nut and grains, breads and a wide variety of local cold cuts. Cooked eggs can be ordered as part of the breakfast buffet. The breakfast room is also fully staffed and service is thus quick and amiable.

Elsewhere in the hotel, one always can find a member of staff that has time to help (in German, Italian or English, and in many cases also in French). The pool area is nice and there is a kid’s playroom. The hotel management is dog-friendly.

All in all, the GranPanorama Hotel Miramonti is simply impeccable. Perfect service delivered without a hint of pretentiousness. Having visited hundreds of hotels in over 60 countries, only one other hotel make coming to the hotel a destination in itself; the Singapore Pan Pacific. Indeed, the unobtrusive service and legions of staff ready to assist at any moment, reminds me of the fantastic service one gets in Asian hotels.

The hotel has a superb view over merano which is breath taking. The spa is very nice with a few different types of saunas, a swimming pool and a steamroom. The restaurant in the glass room is superb although a bit expensive for what you get. The breakfast is very nice with a large selection of bread and rolls, meat, fruit and cheese. Very very nice rooms we had a suite with a small wall seperating the room with a tv on each side which was nice.

Clean, modern, hotel overlooking the Italian Alps. Fantastic views. Excellent restaurant. Hotel staff very professional and helpful.

Nothing can beat the views in this hotel. The staff are really friendly and great spa area.
If you are looking for somewhere romantic and quiet this is the place.
Not ideal if you like the nightlife unless you have a car, although the winding roads to get to it are not the best at night.
Sunny mornings on the balcony - perfect way to recharge after a busy week.
