“Great place, great value, stunning countryside”

I've stayed at the Arabella Sheraton Spitzingsee twice over the last two years. Really, I travel a lot, and this place is a real find: great clean rooms, impeccable service, fantastic pool and spa area, and good food. I liked the place for walking in the mountains, and spending time with family, For skiing, this hotel is well-situated to many skiing options.

There are ample eating options walking distance from the hotel. Spitzingsee is real small, and a great place to walk and relax.

The location is close to about everything that you want to do in southern Bavaria. Plus, the staff is outstanding, helpful. I normally don't give too glowing of reviews, but for this place, I am.

Room Tip: Book or request a room with a lake view.

“Great service in a beautiful area.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 November 2011

I am actually a frequent guest at The ArabellaSheraton Alpenhotel as I only live just over an hour away from the hotel. The hotel is situated in the German Alps so just about 80 mins drive from Munich through some really beautiful countryside and very picturesque.

The hotel is in the valley of the alps, just 1200 metres up, located overlooking the lake, the mountains and the forests. The area is very peaceful and popular with hikers as they have great hiking trails, skiing and mountain biking. There is a path way around the lake which takes 90 mins. It is a perfect getaway.

Check in is really lovely, your welcomed with a smile, given old fashioned keys to your room. On many occasions I have stayed either in the classic lake view room or the studio suite lake view, both rooms have beautiful rooms over looking the lake. The rooms are clean, modern and hold the alpine landhaus feel. The bathrooms are fresh you either have a bath or shower together or just a rainfall shower which I love. On the beds are robes and slippers and a chocolate treat. It is worth every penny to get a lake view room as you have outstanding views for most of your stay.

The hotel has a swimming pool with built in Jacuzzi and water spray, a small separate child’s pool with small fountains. A relaxing area over looking the lake and mountains and sun beds. There is also an area in the spa where you can order food. The sauna part is mainly for adults and clothing optional but been in Germany it will be more naked than clothing. There is a steam room, three saunas, one been a flower sauna, a mountain sauna and a finish sauna, shower area, relaxing area, open air sun beds and some pools to refresh your feet. There is also a gym which is state of the art with few machines for cardio and weights and a cool stretching area with soft plus flooring, along with the amenities is the beauty farm where you can book really good massages and treatments for really good prices.

The cuisine is really tasty. They have two restaurants, one the main restaurant creating Bavarian and international dishes, and an Italian restaurant. The serve a buffet style breakfast with a lot of food to choose from, from typical European foods, to Bavarian to an American breakfast. They also serve lunch you can either order a la carte or choose from the buffet. Service is really friendly, quick and professional.

In all I love this hotel, it is a home away from home in the mountains. Amd yes pets are allowed.

Room Tip: Room with a lake view have outstanding views over the lake, mountains and forests. Studio suite is...

“Great little getaway near Munich”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 October 2011

Probably more popular as a ski town in winter, it's also a great cheap area to visit during the rest of the year. Hotel was clean and fairly adequate. Restaurant onsite was a nice place for dinner, with local seasonal specialties.

Nice path around the lake for a short walk or jog. A few hundred yards down the road is the ski resort, which offers lifts to the top of the mountain. From there you can ride back down or hike down the gentle ski runs back to the lake. There is nothing better than a long hike with no uphill grades. A great way to spend a day, especially if temperatures are hotter at lower elevations.

Room Tip: There are two buildings, the cheaper is likely what you get with a "mountain view" room.

Hallo geterdOne,
thanks a lot for your time you've spend writing this review! Nice to hear, that you liked the place and our hotel. And yes, the rooms lowest in rate are those with mountain view, the higher category is south view, and the highest lakeview.
Hope seeing you one day again at Spitzingsee resort- maybe! Best regards, Peter_K./ GM

“Wow, is this a beautiful place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

I actually did say "Wow" a number of times when we stayed here. The first was when we went to our room, which was huge and had a gorgeous view of the lake. We stayed on points, but, being an SPG gold member, my room may have had a better view than some? A small family could probably stay in this room, which was clean quiet, and furnished with handsome rustic furniture. The spa area is also gorgeous, with a large, warm pool, some waterfalls, scented and non-scented showers, steam rooms, and various saunas with different scents and temperatures (I believe 70, 80, and 90 degrees). All have views of the lake, which already had snow in late September!
We only went to the German restaurant because the Italian one was closed for the night. We had the buffet which was tasty and a good bargain in the evening. We had a very funny and friendly waiter who came from one of the former Yugoslavian republics (Kosovo if I recall correctly). Although the breakfast buffet is wonderful, I would warn those staying on points that you'll be charged 23 Euros a person (eek!), and there doesn't seem to be another place for breakfast within walking distance.
The only thing I would do to improve the place would be to have free internet in the rooms. There are two free terminals in the lobby, though. This is certainly a great place for a romantic getaway!

Room Tip: Even the first floor rooms have good views!

Dear labelgo,
thanks so much for your positive ratings on tripadvisor! Great to hear, that we could inspire you so much. Taking home great memories of a trip - that's what it is all about. And by the way, for people who don't spend their SPG points here - breakfast is always included in the room rate.
It would be nice, if you visit us again one day - be welcome any time! Peter_K./GM

“Great Hotel…Great Hiking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 October 2011

Beautiful setting in the Alps!! Great place to totally relax as there are not a lot of “tourist things” to do other than hiking, relaxing, visiting some nice local restaurants. The staff was very friendly and upgraded us to a lake view room and offered us a complementary bottle of wine.

I would highly suggest that you bring you hiking shoes and find one a the dozens of trails leading into the hills.
