“Still the best hotel in Taroudant -- try the cheese plate”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

We've been coming to this hotel for five years and it is still our favorite in Taroudant, with excellent service, wonderful garden both colorful and fragrant, fine swimming pool, rooms and restaurant. This time we particularly enjoyed the cheese plate, rare in Morocco, with a fine selection of cheese on offer including Tete de Moine, a cheese from the owner's home country of Switzerland.

“A fantastic hotel near touradant”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 January 2012

Dar zitoune is situated on the outskirts of touradant. Walking to the town is possible, but not very pleasant due to busyness of the road, however taxis can be caught for less than 1 pound.

The hotel consists of a number of bungalows dotted throughout the beautifully landscaped gardens. The bungalows are very spacious and comfortable. My only complaint is that they are a little cold at night (in January)

The staff are very friendly and helpful and could not fault the service.

The food was excellent - very generous breakfasts and dinners ( 5 courses every evening) and was great quality. We went for the half board - which in hindsight was a good choice since restaurants appear to be limited in town.

All in all a great place to come to unwind and to be spoilt for a few days.

“Perfect winter break in sunny southern Morocco”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

Dar Zitoune offered everything we wanted for a winter getaway over New Year. Lovely surroundings and pool area, with lemon and orange trees, friendly hospitality, good service, food and accommodation. There is a lovely fragrant aroma when you walk through the gardens, which are full of roses, birds and even a little baby tortoise!

On arrival, we were greeted by the manager who offered us mint tea and chatted while we relaxed after a 3hr taxi transfer. (Next time will fly to Agadir, rather than Marrakech; not to be recommended unless like us there was no alternative). The rooms – stayed in a bungalow – are nicely appointed, with a patio terrace where you can take breakfast if you want. The bed was a bit hard for my liking, but other than that, the bungalow was spacious with plenty of hanging space, hot water, clean towels, tv and every day our room was replenished with bottled water and freshly made cakes.

The pool area was very clean, as are all areas of the hotel, with attentive service, so you can relax by the pool, get drinks (alcohol was always accompanied by canapés, so we were never hungry!), and enjoy temperatures of 21-22 C at the end of December.

The restaurant offers 5 course dinner at very reasonable price (roughly 30-35GBP without alcohol) and is of very good quality. You can get a good wine for approx 14GBP. Rarely for us, we didn’t explore much as our break was to just chill, but from what I saw of what was on offer in Taroudant, I’d say you’d do well to eat at the hotel anyway. The dinner menu was different every day and comprised an amuse bouche, soup, starter, main course, cheese and desert, with mint tea to follow, if you still have room. There is a bar area and comfy seating where you can hang out, and internet service.

The service is outstanding – every day the manager and owner spoke with every guest at breakfast and dinner to make sure everything was okay. All the staff are lovely.

We didn’t really explore much, so I am sure there is more to take away from the area, but as for the hotel itself, it was perfect for what we were looking for to get away after Christmas to relax in the sunshine. I’d highly recommend the hotel and would definitely stay there again.

Tip: It helps if you know a bit of French – goes for Morocco in general, though the hotel staff speak excellent English. Although a bit out of town, you can get a taxi into Taroudant for 2GBP or less each way, else is a 20+ min walk once you know your bearings.

Many thanks to the management and staff for a lovely stay.

“Simply the best hotel on our first trip to Marocco”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 January 2012

After a week long motorbike tour of central Morocco, beginning and ending in Marrakech we spent the final night in the beautiful Riad Dar Zitoune. We were made very welcome by the staff, under Mouniame, the general manager. The self contained garden room was very comfortable with nice welcome treats, a very hot shower and a firm bed. Dinner was very tasty (some of the best fish I've ever had) washed down with some excellent Moroccan red wine, followed by a superb cheese board. The next day was started by a delightfully fortifying breakfast consisting of cheese omelette, fresh bread and croissants plus the ubiquitous fresh fruit. After fresh coffee and a stroll round the beautiful gardens we bid farewell to the excellent staff for the final leg our our journey back to the airport at Marrakech. BMW bike hire was from Reda, Palm Road (contact@palm-road.com). We will return to Morocco soon and spend more time exploring Toroudant and will of course stay again at the Riad Dar Zitoune. Thanks again to the staff, Mouniame and the owner Mark.
