Dar Zitoune offered everything we wanted for a winter getaway over New Year. Lovely surroundings and pool area, with lemon and orange trees, friendly hospitality, good service, food and accommodation. There is a lovely fragrant aroma when you walk through the gardens, which are full of roses, birds and even a little baby tortoise!
On arrival, we were greeted by the manager who offered us mint tea and chatted while we relaxed after a 3hr taxi transfer. (Next time will fly to Agadir, rather than Marrakech; not to be recommended unless like us there was no alternative). The rooms – stayed in a bungalow – are nicely appointed, with a patio terrace where you can take breakfast if you want. The bed was a bit hard for my liking, but other than that, the bungalow was spacious with plenty of hanging space, hot water, clean towels, tv and every day our room was replenished with bottled water and freshly made cakes.
The pool area was very clean, as are all areas of the hotel, with attentive service, so you can relax by the pool, get drinks (alcohol was always accompanied by canapés, so we were never hungry!), and enjoy temperatures of 21-22 C at the end of December.
The restaurant offers 5 course dinner at very reasonable price (roughly 30-35GBP without alcohol) and is of very good quality. You can get a good wine for approx 14GBP. Rarely for us, we didn’t explore much as our break was to just chill, but from what I saw of what was on offer in Taroudant, I’d say you’d do well to eat at the hotel anyway. The dinner menu was different every day and comprised an amuse bouche, soup, starter, main course, cheese and desert, with mint tea to follow, if you still have room. There is a bar area and comfy seating where you can hang out, and internet service.
The service is outstanding – every day the manager and owner spoke with every guest at breakfast and dinner to make sure everything was okay. All the staff are lovely.
We didn’t really explore much, so I am sure there is more to take away from the area, but as for the hotel itself, it was perfect for what we were looking for to get away after Christmas to relax in the sunshine. I’d highly recommend the hotel and would definitely stay there again.
Tip: It helps if you know a bit of French – goes for Morocco in general, though the hotel staff speak excellent English. Although a bit out of town, you can get a taxi into Taroudant for 2GBP or less each way, else is a 20+ min walk once you know your bearings.
Many thanks to the management and staff for a lovely stay.
