“An oasis of calm and comfort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 February 2011

The hotel is located in the kasbah, but the entrance is on the outside wall, with parking outside. As you enter, you leave the bustle of Taroudant and enter an oasis of calm. The courtyard area is delightful, running water, tables under the massive palms, lesser kestrels flying around. 2 pools but too cold to swim when we were there. Attentive service, great food in the delightful restaurant. Bar was a bit smoky and noisy for me. Nice rooms, lots of space, bathrooms basic but roomy and everything works.

“Fantastic helpful staff”

After being locked out of the hotel that we had pre-booked and already checked in to, namely the Riad Taroudant, The Palais Salam offered us a safe haven on a cold and increasingly frustrating night. Not only did they take pity on our lack of accommodation (no other hotel in town would accept us as our passports were locked inside said Riad Taroudant) but they were amazingly helpful and charming about the desperate situation. The rooms were clean, warm and welcoming and breakfast in the garden under the palms was very pleasant start to the day.

“Delightful and authentic - respect and appreciation goes both ways.”

I felt safe - slept soundly to the sound of bird song and kitten meowing ... just like home. This Hotel is full of artficacts that dazzle the senses. We enjoyed the 'targines' immensely and the lovely breakfasts - and sateen draped tables of Indigo and Gold with matching serviettes. The Staff - I would gladly take home 99% of them... especially our favourite Porter. Management and staff ere very embracing, as were pool staff obliging. These are generous people in life and spirit, and this is for me what makes a place special. This place has been mentioned as 'dated', yet it is part of the charm- improvements are ongoing.. and at least they give work to many - a rarity enough for many westerners with their machines.. 7 days here was not enough - I shall return if at all possible.

“Very traditional rooms - not my thing! Plus awful food”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 December 2010

We stayed here on the last night of our 10 night tour around Morocco. The rooms were very Moroccon but really was not my sort of thing, it felt like being in a Church with extremely high painted ceilings, stained glass lampshades and really dark wooden furniture. The mattress was rock hard, not a good nights sleep!
As we were with a tour, breakfast and dinner were included (unfortunately), there were no soup bowls out at dinner time and when requested the waiter only brought out 1 when there were many people waiting for soup. Lots of cats all around the outside dining area, food just generally poor. There were also trays left outside rooms on the window sill with half eaten food on it which was attracting lots of cats and which didn't get cleared away by the morning. We were going to have a drink in the hotel bar before dinner but it was full of Moroccon men - and being a young blonde woman I did not fancy it!
Also the plugs were coming off the walls which didn't seem very safe.
Cleanliness - really rather poor. There were hairs all over the floor of the bedroom and bathroom, there were a lot of ants in the room and the place was generally quite dusty. I cannot comment on the value of the hotel as it was part of a tour. I wouldn't recommend to a friend purely because the rooms were not modern enough for my liking - see pictures!!

“Relaxing, Wonderful Staff”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 October 2010

The staff here were amasing, giving us buy one get one free rooms (we were off season and obviously on a budget as we were backpacking). They helped us whenever we asked them and went out of their way to help us with our more annoying requests like weighting our baggage before we flew back home. I would recomend this for a short stay, but for a greater length of time the town does not have a huge amount to offer.
