“Nice Hotel but with a little extra could be Top Class”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 January 2012

Don't get me wrong I enjoyed my stay at the Corinthia Palace which has one of the best Gyms I have ever seen in an hotel of this level. Including a Kinesis Technogym and enough Treadmills and Cycle trainers to accommodate everyone. But is was let down by services in the food department. Monday evening, only one restaurant open with what can only be described as a 2 star menu. Having said that the food was good quality and service was also good. Tuesday evening the Rickshaw Restaurant was open and both food and service were excellent, as they had a very large party in the dining room they let me eat upstairs in the Caprice Bar which was quieter. Wednesday I didn't want to eat at the Rickshaw again so decided to eat in the Caprice Bar - big mistake - the menu was a choice of 3 TV Platters, it was as if they were trying to dissuade people from eating in the Bar couple that with the (too loud) piano playing away in the corner limiting the ability to talk with anyone, really lets this venue down. Why can't the Caprice Bar at least offer the room service menu ??
Thursday and Friday I was luck enough to fined the Melita Restaurant (http://www.avantgardecaterers.com/)located 100m down the road and providing a decent menu and some fabulous deserts within most pleasant surroundings.
It is often the little things that both let down or improve a venue, in this case they let it down.
But as I said previously don't let this put you off what is a very comfortable hotel.
I will certainly stay at the Corinthia Palace again - but will eat out most of the time.

Room Tip: Rooms are good, as for a room with a balcony.

“Probably the best hotel in Malta”

We had a New Year break here for one week on a room and breakfast basis. The hotel is old style formal luxury. The staff are very attentive and the management very visible and very hands on.
As it was winter season we got a great deal. I checked the price again whilst we were there and they were doing room only from £55 per night which I thought incredible for this standard of hotel.
I would definately suggest you book on a breakfast basis as it was amongst the best breakfast services of any hotel I have stayed in.
The spa was nice if a little crowded as it seemed popular with the locals even when the hotel is less full in winter. The gym has everything you could want.
Other than breakfast we didn't dine in the hotel as we like to see the place around us when on holiday. It has a formal restaurant as well as an asian one so bring shirt and tie etc if you want to have a full choice.
The one let down was the room service food which was average and didn't feel anywhere near five star or value for money. You will also find the bar bill a lot higher than having drinks in Valetta.
Malta failed to wow us so i think I can safely say we won't be back to the island or this hotel but we will definately stay in other Corinthia hotels based on the standards in this one..

Room Tip: Front facing rooms have the best views.

“Really nice hotel, very relaxing”

I had a lovely stay in this hotel, i was staying in a suite as i was sharing with 3 others, it was cheaper than two double rooms and it was luxurious! fab room with sitting room and dinning area, two entrances, bathrobes, slippers, huge wardrobes etc. great facilities, nice pool area with enough space, we were always able to get seats, good location and very close to the bus stop. I would definitely stay here again.

“Definitely not 5 star”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 December 2011

From the website this hotel was sold as a 5 star, best hotel in Malta etc. Upon arrival, we knew instantly it was nothing of the sort. After check in, none of the staff bothered to help with our luggage. To make it worst you have to climb some stairs to get to the lift. Not the greatest start. Whilst the rooms are spacious, the hotel was clearly in need of modernisation. The carpets were stained and old, and the whole interior design just looked dated. On the first night after a goodnight cuddle, my GF rolled over on the bed only to find a lizard crawling over it!!!

We come from Malaysia where there are many lizards, but hotels will spray to ensure they stay away from the hotel. Clearly this hotel did not. When I complained, initially they blamed us for opening the balcony door (which was open for less than 10 seconds!!). They tried to fob me off with a bottle of wine (which was the wine served at breakfast). After further complaints, they reluctantly said they would move us - at 1am in the morning, with our bags fully unpacked. To say we were upset was an understatement. More complaints and they offered a suite. I will say this about the suite. Everything is exactly the same as a bog standard room, even the size of the bathroom (which was tiny). All it had was another lounge/ study room. We did not use this room at all. I would strongly recommend anyone considering a suite to forget it at this hotel.

The hotel was only saved by the superb service from the concierge and front desk on helping us get around the island and their restaurant recommendations. Zeros is definitely worth a visit if you don't mind to splash a bit of cash, lovely Italian food and service. The shuttle bus is good to get you into town and also the main restaurant in the beautiful hall was the highlight.

This was all spoilt again by the rudeness of some staff. When we were ill informed of the charging procedure for the use of tennis equipment and subsequently charged extortionate money for less than an hour, the staff was rude and she decided to argue back with us. This was escalated with the manager but he seemed disinterested at best. The swimming pool was swarming with people and it was cold in there -relaxing it most certainly wasn't.

I was very disappointed with this hotel, because you can see elements of it being classy but it is let down by its ageing facilities and inconsistent service. If this is 5 star, then Malta is many years behind.

“Great staff, but not worth the money”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

The hotel grounds are quite lovely, and the large balconies offered a relaxing way to enjoy a glass of wine and unwind. But overall, we found the room itself to be a bit frayed around the edges (much like the bath towels). The staff were wonderful and very accommodating, but the hotel itself was not fantastic (as the 5-star rating and expensive room rates would imply).

One morning during our stay, there was some kind of alarm and we were evacuated. Unfortunately, information about the nature of the emergency, and about when we would be allowed back into the hotel, was not clearly communicated. (When one sees Bomb Squad trucks rolling up to the hotel, a little assurance would have gone a long way). Another issue-- the amenities were lacking, especially for a 5-star resort. Example: When our flight was delayed, we arrived late, after all the hotel restaurants had closed. But when we tried to order room service--no one answered the phone. Ever. Eventually, we gave up. Also, as I alluded to earlier, the towels were threadbare, frayed, and sometimes had holes. Not the end of the world, but certainly not what one expects from a 5-star hotel. We tried calling for a new batch one night, but were given towels in even worse condition--again, we gave up after that. Also, the fees for wi-fi were exorbitant--especially given the room rates.

The Corinthia offers free shuttle service to other major cities in Malta (great, since taxis are quite expensive) but the timing is not always super-convenient, just check the schedule in advance as it changes from day to day. The Royal Gardens across the street from the hotel are worth a visit--very lush and beautiful, especially in the late afternoon. Also, nearby Mdina is a must-see, as are the Lascaris War Rooms and the Hypogeum (note: you MUST purchase tickets in advance--check the TripAdvisor reviews for tips on last minute tickets: http://goo.gl/PAHQD). The concierge at the Corinthia was very helpful throughout our stay, especially in booking restaurant reservations. He also recommended a day cruise to Gozo and Comino that was one of the highlights of our trip.

For the price we paid, and the reviews we read, The Corinthia just didn't live up to our expectations or previous experiences of a 5-star hotel and resort. So, I'd only recommend if you get a very good deal.

Room Tip: The 'Pool View' rooms face the hotel grounds while the "Garden View' rooms face the...
