The hotel is very smart and has a beautiful feeling of relaxation. The room I was given had a lovely balcony overlooking the fields, sea and cliffs. The room itself was very smart and the complementary toiletries were lovely. The lounge and bar area was really comfortable and peaceful. My only disappointment is that after my stay I received an e-mail from the general manager thanking me for "very positive feedback" and asking me to click on a link to the Trip Advisor website to "confirm these great comments". My problem with this is that I did not make any such comments at all!! I feel that this marketing strategy on a paying customer - to ask me to validate comments that I did not make - is both improper and disrespectful.

Firstly the bus ride from funchal to santana is an adventure in itself and not to be missed. the bus is comfortable and the scenery en route magical. from the santana terminus, a 5 euro taxi ride completes the journey to this magnifiicent hotel.
we started with coffee in the main reception building followd by a gentle stroll around the grounds. then we had lunch.
the views from the window of the restaurant along the coast line are brilliant. the staff are excellent and the food is the best we tasted in madeira. especially good is their version of beef wellington but the speciality ice creams also make the trip worthwhile.
one word of caution, finding a taxi in santana on a sunday may be difficult as it was for us on an earlier visit. other days of the week there are several available close to the bus terminus,

It´s ideal to relax at the hotel , it is verry silent and the staff is always frendly . All balconies are on the seaside and you are having a great view over the eat coast !!
Also a great view to the mountains inkl Pico Ruivo .
When i am comming back to Madeira I´ll stay at the Quinta do Furao

This has to be one of the best cliff top hotels in the world. The views are fabulous and the hotel is friendly and well equiped with a very good restaurant and bar.

The north side of Madeira is really beautiful and there are great walks nearby. If/when we return to Madeira we'll be sure to stay at the Quinta do Furao again.
