“Brilliant hotel”

stayed at this hotel last summer and loved every minute of it.

The staff are genuinely there to assist and make your stay pleasant. The rooms are huge and cleaned to perfection EVERY morning (one of the few hotels where a double really means DOUBLE). The restaurant buffet every morning was the perfect start to the day, spoilt for choice, never had to wait and everything we tried was brilliantly cooked.

The pool bar area was pleasant (nothing too exotic but very decent) the bar staff great fun to be served by and knew how to entertain guests. Having said that, the entertainment team itself could have gone to a bit more effort to come up with better shows.
Indoors bar of the hotel a bit quieter but a very good place for a late drink and chat with the staff.

The only downside of the place was the beach area. It has rocks scattered in the seafront to (as was explained) stop the corrosion of the land by the sea-current. On a not-windy day the water is still very pleasent though and there is a few sandy spots to access it. On top of that, a short walk away and through the lovely village of mastichari there s an even better long-sandy beach.

will return with no hesitation next year. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a quiet but very enjoyable holiday in a hotel with proper service.

“Excellent holiday”

We stayed 1 wk half board. Good accomodations. Pleasant staff. Good food. Good pool. Short walk to village/supermarket. Local bus stop 10 metres away! Good for day bus trip to Kos Town (2 Euros each way). Car rental down the road (32Euros/day, incl full insurance, A/C). Took day trip to Kalymnos on the local ferry (3.5 Euros each way), then a local bus to Massouri where we stopped at a bar overlooking Telendos volcano. Also took a day trip by hydrofoil to Bodrum Turkey (10 Euros return). Shop around for the best deal from your pickup point. Ours was 20Euros per person incl the hydrofoil which was barely more than it would have cost on the local bus (whose times didn't match the Bodrum hydrofoil). We enjoyed the whole trip very much. Hotel guests 95%+ German, who are discriminating guests. All seemed happy with the hotel and services too.
Previous reviewer didn't like the beach immediately in front of the hotel. However, there is an adjacent good beach and also a fine swimming pool at the hotel.

“Cannot Fault Mastichari Bay Hotel, but...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 September 2005

I have just arrived back today from a week at the Mastichari Bay Hotel. Everything positive that has already been said about this hotel complex I would reinforce here. Staff, facilities, food and cleanliness are first rate. However, the reasons I would never return to Mastichari Bay is related to the resort itself. The "beaches" in the resort of Mastichari are the worst I have ever visited and I would say they were more comparable to a building site. You could not enter the sea due to the huge piles of washed up seaweed ( I mean the whole length of the beach and up to 4 foot high in places) and rubbish ( there was a rusting bedframe on the main beach the day I decided to take my son). This would take a single day to clear initially with a tractor and then could be maintained easily with a quick rake by the sunbed rental businesses every morning. No local business owner seems prepared to do this, yet they wish to profit from the beach location? The resort itself also has no soul. There was nothing typically greek about it and the harbour area where there were several restaurants situated smelt like an open sewer on many occassions. This is such a pity as a tiny bit of effort by the local businesses and local government could turn this place into a goldmine.

“our stay at Mactichari Bay Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 August 2005

Having booked with Manos Holidays in February, disappointed to be told 2 weeks before departure that we were being moved to another hotel (Mastichari Bay) Need not have worried, on arrival early Friday morning (0200) was met by the reception staff who arranged for a porter to take our cases to the room (154) Our first impression was WOW this room is huge my wife and 2 children had never stayed in a room this big before.

The view from the balcony was stunning the island of Kalymnos right in front of us. A walk down to the harbour for the boat was first on the agenda and the bonus of dolphins swimming alongside the boat was very special.

Breakfast and the evening meal was satisfactory we never left hungry the service was good and the meals always hot normally between 6-8 choices and then a good cold selection, guests predominantly German but more Brits came during the our stay.

The pool is very big and only 1.7m at its deepest, plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas, small beach attached to the grounds adequate for a quick dip in the Med.

The room staff were exceptional nothing was too much trouble you could ask for extra towels another pillow anything really. The rooms where cleaned daily beds made and floors washed and brushed.

Air con was only meant to be available from 1500 to 2400 but as it was so hot it became available 24 hours.

The safety deposit boxes are 18 euros for 1 wk 30 euros for 2 wks and 40 euros for 3 wks. The late checkout is 20 euros until 1800 or 30 euros until you leave which we did as our departure from the hotel as 2245.

Pool table internet facilities (not broadband) fitness centre(free), table tennis (free) all readily available

Only downside was the evening entertainment which was poor, the local animation team spent the night pestering the guests to join in with some very dubious entertainment which normally meant being embarrassed by them on stage.

All in all a good place to stay, quiet and safe for all.

If you get a chance go to Nissyros and see the volcano the road trip alone is worth it.

“A Terrible Experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 August 2005

I booked myself a room for 1 night and my friend for 8 nights. Check in was fine and the hotel looked cosmetically very pleasing. A busy pool area - nicely decorated hotel and well maintained gardens. After checking in and looking around, we had dinner which was simply awful. The food variety was poor. It smelt liked school dinners and there were kids running around the restaurant screaming. There was little ambience and the lighting in the outside part of the restaurant was bright white lights from strip bulbs - a bit like a house garage. Service was ok but nothing special. The food was not very hot, over cooked and dull in presentation. The fruit was over ripe. After dinner we headed for the bar/pool area. The evening entertainment was for children only. The bar area was quiet, there was very quiet music playing and no atmosphere at all. I did not want my friend staying for a further 7 days - she would have been very bored and probably depressed! That evening we advised the hotel we would be checking out in the morning - this was accepted with no problem. Upon returning to my room I found a leak in my bathroom from the ceiling which reception advised they would look at the following day. The following morning we tried to check out to find that they wanted to charge my friend 3 nights canx fee plus 20% commission for the remainder of the stay. They refused to negotiate, held our passports and threatened to call the police. We were outraged, disappointed and shocked at the way this was being handled. Furthermore they began insulting us, would not believe we were unhappy and that we were only cancelling so that we could go and stay at another hotel together (why would we have booked 2 separate rooms if we had wanted to be together in the first place!). We contacted the agency we booked the hotel through and they managed to pursuade the hotel not to charge us the 20% but they still wanted the 3 nights canx fee. The manager was not prepared to budge an inch, was unpleasant to us and uninterested in anything we had to say - the reception staff were insulting, arrogant and unwilling to help. We had no choice but to pay the charge and we left instantaneously.... with our passports! This is not somewhere I would recommend.
